The Bowling Green State University tennis team heads to Cincinnati this weekend to compete in the Queen City Invitational. The three-day event begins Friday morning (Oct. 2) and runs through Sunday (Oct. 4).
Teams scheduled to compete in the event are Ball State, Bradley, Dayton, Toledo, West Virginia and Xavier, in addition to the Falcons and host Cincinnati. The event will be held indoors at the Queen City Racquet Club.
Head coach Penny Dean's team is competing in the second of three fall events, having opened the year by hosting the BGSU Invitational (Sept. 19-20). Freshman Jade Johnson was the team's lone individual champion in that event, winning all three of her weekend matches at the eighth flight.
Three other Falcons earned runner-up placings in singles action at the BGSU Invite. Junior Christine Chiricosta finished second at the top flight, while senior Samantha Kintzel advanced to the championship match at the fourth flight before succumbing. Sophomore Jessica Easdale picked up a second-place finish at flight number seven. And, Chiricosta and freshman Maddy Eccleston teamed up to advance to the championship match of the top doubles flight.
Two of this weekend's opponents -- both of the Cincinnati schools -- will seem familiar to the Falcons. UC and Xavier each competed in the BGSU Invitational.
Following this weekend's event, the Falcons' fall itinerary will see the team head to Nashville, Tenn., for the Belmont Invitational on Oct. 23-24.
