October 19, 2009 | General
The Bowling Green State University Athletic Department is beginning a new award this week on BGSUFalcons.com, the Papa John's Athletes of the Week. Each week, the athletic communications department will select a male and female athlete of the week based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's soccer player Cameron Hepple and women's cross country runner Heather Conger.
Male Athlete of the Week
Cameron Hepple, a senior soccer player from Nassau, Bahamas, had a pair of goals in BG's lone match of the week, a 4-3 victory at Buffalo, after missing four weeks due to injury. The two goals came just nine minutes apart, the second coming with 14 minutes left in the second half, and gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead. It marked his second multiple-goal game of the season and helped Bowling Green snap a 10-match losing streak to MAC teams. It was Bowling Green's first road win against a MAC team in nearly three years.
Female Athlete of the Week
Heather Conger, a junior cross country runner from Euclid, Ohio, finished in third place Saturday in the Falcon Invite propelling the Falcons to a team championship in the event. Her time of 22:15.1 in the 6K event was a personal record and now ranks her 14th all-time in BGSU history in the 6K run. Her time puts her third all-time among BGSU runners in that specific 6K course.
