Easdales Win Mother-Daughter Tourney Title

A BGSU player has won the tourney three years running
Bowling Green State University tennis sophomore Jessica Easdale and her mother, Dori Easdale, won the doubles title at the
The Easdale duo won four matches to claim the title, losing just one set in the four matches. The team's closest match came in the semifinals, when they dropped the opening-set tiebreaker to the team of Johnson/Trower Johnson. But, the Easdale/Easdale tandem won each of the next two sets by identical scores of 6-4 to capture the lengthy three-set match.
In the championship, the Easdales downed the Gerger/Gerger team by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.
Falcon junior Christine Chiricosta and her mother, Sheila Chiricosta, also competed in the tournament, losing a quarterfinal-round match but bouncing back to win a pair of consolation contests. The Chiricostas won the title in both 2007 and 2008.
Jessica Easdale has an overall record of 13-6 at BGSU through the fall portion of the season, tying her for the most wins on the team. She is 7-2 in singles and 6-4 in doubles action this year to date. A native of
Dori Easdale (maiden name Dori Voelker) played collegiate tennis at
Christine Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio, has earned All-MAC honors in each of her first two seasons with the Falcons, and posted a 12-5 overall record in the fall portion of the season. Her 7-2 singles record tied Easdale for best on the team, and Chiricosta posted a 5-3 doubles mark in the fall. Last spring, she became the first player in BGSU women's tennis history to be named an Academic All-American.
Sheila Chiricosta coached the Falcon tennis team for three seasons (1987-88 through 1989-90), prior to current BGSU coach Penny Dean taking the helm. Sheila Chiricosta played collegiate tennis at the
Both Christine Chiricosta and Jessica Easdale earned individual ITA Scholar Athlete awards last season, as the Falcons were named an All-Academic Team for the 2008-09 academic year.
The 2009-10 Falcons, having completed the fall portion of the schedule in late October, are now idle from competition until mid-January.
