Samuels-Thomas, Richardson Named Papa John's Athletes of the Week
November 02, 2009 | General
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Jordan Samuels-Thomas and swimmer Meg Richardson.
Male Athlete of the Week
Jordan Samuels-Thomas, a freshman hockey player from Windsor, Conn., scored his first and second collegiate goals while on a road trip to Omaha, Neb. this weekend. The Windsor, Conn. native scored his first career goal in the third period of Friday's game versus the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, tying the game at 2-2 at the time. After a 3-3 tie could not be decided in overtime, Samuels-Thomas scored the only tally in the game-deciding shootout. He would follow up Saturday night with the lone Falcon score against UNO, again in the third period of action, in a 3-1 Falcon loss.
Samuels-Thomas fooled two different UNO goaltenders on the weekend, John Faulkner in game one and veteran Jeremie Dupont in game two. He now leads the team in points (5), assists (3) and is tied for the team lead in goals (2).
Female Athlete of the Week
Meg Richardson, a senior swimmer from Springfield, Ohio, won five events in two Mid-American Conference swimming meets over the weekend, including sweeping the 50 freestyle. She swam a 23.82 to win the 50 free at Eastern Michigan and followed that up with a 24.12 to win the same event at Ball State.
