BGSU faces Detroit, FAU at Cochrane Field
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will close the 2009 season with a pair of home matches this week ... the Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols will step outside of Mid-American Conference play for one final time, facing the University of Detroit Mercy in Wednesday action (Nov. 4) ... kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at BGSU's Cochrane Field ... then, the Brown and Orange will meet Florida Atlantic University in Saturday (Nov. 7) action at Cochrane ... FAU is a MAC affiliate member in men's soccer ... the Falcons and Owls will meet in a noon kickoff at Cochrane.

Falcon senior co-captains Jacob Lawrence and Hunter Van Houten have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division team, it was announced Friday night (Oct. 30) ... both players earned first-team honors, meaning their names will now appear on the national ballot ... Lawrence earned the district honor for the second time in his BGSU career, having also been named to the first team in 2008 ... Van Houten earns academic all-district accolades for the first time ... Lawrence maintains a 3.93 cumulative GPA as an interpersonal communications major ... Van Houten, a health science major, has a 3.95 cumulative GPA in his BGSU career to date ... the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee ... to be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carrry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher ... team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.

The Falcons dropped a pair of matches, falling at Wright State by a 2-0 count Wednesday night (Oct. 28) before losing a 3-0 verdict against Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 31) ... in Dayton, WSU's Braden Fleak scored both goals, finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute and providing some insurance for the Raiders with just five minutes to go in the match ... freshman goalkeeper Dylan Schoettley made a total of four saves for the Falcons ... on Saturday, Juan Hoyos scored a pair of goals for NIU ...
