Iowa City, Iowa – For the second consecutive game, the Bowling Green men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting team. Iowa made 12-of-25 three-pointers and put three players in double-figures in scoring as the Hawkeyes beat the Falcons 68-46 Friday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Senior Marc Larson scored a season-high 12 points for Bowling Green but the Falcons struggled to shoot the ball, turned it over 15 times, and was unable to defend Iowa's perimeter game.
Bowling Green jumped out to an early 7-3 lead by the media timeout but Iowa scored the next 10 points and never really looked back. The Hawkeyes pushed the lead to 15 but Dee Brown scored on a lay-up and Scott Thomas followed with a three-pointer to make it 28-18 with 1:27 to go. Iowa, though, answered with a Devan Bawinkel three-pointer and a Brennan Cougill jumper as time expired to make it 33-20 at the break.
Iowa put to rest any second-half comeback hopes by scoring the first seven points of the second half. The Falcons never got closer than 16 the rest of the way.
Outside of Larson's 12 points, nobody else scored more than eight for Bowling Green. Dee Brown made 2-of-3 three-pointers and has now made a sizzling 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) on the season from long range. Joe Jakubowski finished with five points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. He now has 12 assists and just one turnover in the team's first three games. Thomas ended with five points and a team-high six rebounds to go with three assists.
For the game, Iowa shot 47 percent from the field and held the Falcons to just 39 percent shooting. Bowling Green attempted just two free-throws on the evening with both of them coming with 3:10 to play in the contest. The Falcons also committed 15 turnovers, three more than Iowa, marking the first time this year BGSU had more turnovers than an opponent.
Iowa improves to 1-2 on the season and Bowling Green falls to 1-2. The Falcons now have eight days off to prepare for a home game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. in the first of a three-game homestand.
