BGSU Distance Runners Work Hard for the Falcons

FINDLAY, Ohio - After the first day of the All-Ohio Championships, Bowling Green State University is fourth overall. Their second place finish in the distance medley relay gave the Falcons a great start in the two-day competition.
BGSU's "A" squad in the distance medley relay would run a time of 12:19.91. The team comprised of junior Carly Wells, freshman Saisha Gailliard, sophomore Heather Conger and redshirt sophomore Autumn Dettmann would finish eight seconds behind Ohio University.
"The only event contested today in the scored All-Ohio meet was the distance medley relay." said head coach Cami Wells, "We finished second off a good strong effort from all four women in that relay."
The Falcons would also compete in the Findlay Open, which also held competition on Friday. BGSU would compete in only four events due to the All-Ohio Championships.
Freshamn Megan Niehaus would place fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.66. Following two seconds behind Niehaus was sophomore Courtney Krummert placing ninth.
Sophomores Emily Mays and Jenah Wandell would compete in the high jump for the Falcons. Mays would place fifth jumping 1.48 meters and Wandell placed seventh jumping 1.43 meters.
In the shot put, redshirt freshman Katie Manocchio would throw 12.27 meters, securing her in fourth place. Freshman Jereese Barrett would place 12th, throwing the shot 10.95 meters. Both Manocchio and Barrett would also compete in the weight throw placing 22nd and 23rd. Manocchio would throw 12.08 meters and Barrett 11.83 meters.
Freshmen Ashley Harris and Jessica Rowland would compete unattached for the second time this season. Harris would seventh in the shot put, 11.84 meters, and 10th in the weight throw, 14.52 meters. Rowland would place 14th in the shot put, 10.82 meters, and seventh in the weight throw, 14.90 meters.
The men's cross country team would also compete in the distance events at the Findlay Open.
Three of the men would race in the one mile run. Freshamn Peter Miles would finish first for the Falcons placing ninth with a time of 4:35.48. He would be followed by sophomores Chris Moody, 4:39.16, and Jeff Ehler, 4:47.97, placing 11th and 16th.
Ehler would later place 16th in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line first for the Falcons. He would be followed by three sophomores (Abraham Buseini, Chris Moody and Johnstone Kirui) who finish within milliseconds of each other placing 19th, 20th and 21st.
In their last event of the meet, sophomore Jesse Smuda would place 16th with a time of 9:28.73. Six seconds behind would be senior Aaron Smuda placing 17th. Freshman Ben Leininger and Senior Brad Wells would finish four seconds apart placing 19th and 20th.
"I was pleased with the way the men raced." said Wells, "They have been working hard as a group and focusing on being more competitive in practice day to day to better prepare for races and they are making good progress."
The women will be competing in the second day of the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday Feb. 14th.
