BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's Stephanie Young has been awarded the athletic department's second Roll Along Award, given to staff members who understand and live the theme of "18 Sports. 1 Team." Young is in her fourth year coaching the women's golf team at BGSU.
The award provides an avenue to recognize outstanding individuals in the department who make an impact on others and make the department a better place for everyone, including the student-athletes. The award will be presented four times per year.
Quotes From Others About Young:
Lauren Glew, women's golf
"Coach Young is an extraordinary coach and I consider myself very lucky to be one of her players. She is dedicated to helping every member of our team become a better golfer and person and makes sure that each one of us is constantly improving and striving to be the best we can be."
"Not only does Coach support our team, but she makes sure to show her support for all of BGSU Athletics, as I have received many compliments from members of other teams here on campus (and even members of other golf teams in the MAC) about what a great coach and nice person she truly is."
"She brings intensity and fun to our team dynamic and we share similar ideas for the future of BGSU Women's Golf. I am proud to have Coach Young as my coach, mentor, and friend, and can think of no one who better personifies the values of BGSU Athletics."
Garry Winger, men's golf head coach
"Stephanie embraces not only every student athlete she comes into contact with but every member of the Athletic Department family."
"She is involved in as many activities as possible that positively shape the future of BGSU athletics. I have noticed that Stephanie will always put someone else's needs first before her own."
"Deeply caring about anyone that walks into her office may be her greatest quality! Congratulations Steph on the award, 18 sports 1 team defines you!"
Jason Carbone, Golf Magazine and former BGSU grad
"When I think of great coaches, so many qualities come to mind, especially dedication, caring, and a genuine interest in helping others better themselves. Stephanie has always exemplified those qualities in spades, with the key trait being genuine."
"My wife and I are lucky to be able to call her a friend, and I hope the University knows how lucky they are to have her as one of their leaders."
Jim Elsasser, Associate A.D
"When we looked for a new leader for the women's golf program. Stephanie was the name of an up and coming coach. Her teaching ability and genuine care for the improvement of the women's golf skills is evident."
"Stephanie's success in the short term has been tremendous. She is building a foundation for a program that has been stuck in mediocrity. She is organized, energetic and creative. A coach who truly values the 18 sports 1 team model."
Penny Dean, BGSU head tennis coach
"Stephanie is amazing! In 18 years I have never seen a coach come in to BG and make friends with everyone so fast. Not only in the department, but our supporters too. She knows people I don't know."
"Sometime when you have five hours available stop by and see Stephanie's 'Recruiting Plan.' She worked day and night on it and it is extremely thorough."
"Thank goodness that Steph's office was next to mine for a while in Stadium East because she helped me immensely with all the new programs and technology."
Carley Hrusovsky, assistant coach and former player under Young
"Hiring Stephanie my sophomore year was the best thing that could have happened to BG women's golf. She is the perfect balance of everything an athlete needs from their coach."
"She is a great teacher, motivator, supporter and disciplinarian. Steph challenged me everyday to grow into the best player and leader I could be for our team. Now that I am no longer her player, I look to her as a mentor and friend. "
"She is an example to be followed of how to treat others and I have the utmost respect for the way she does her job. I am very thankful to have the opportunity to learn from her! I just think she's the greatest!"
