Falcons Fly West to California for the Judi Garman Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Shannon Salsburg and the Falcon softball team will pack their bags and fly west to Fullerton, California for the Judi Garman Classic (March 12-15) to wrap-up their non-conference tournaments. The Falcons will open the tournament (March 12) against Texas at 11:00 a.m. and Pacific at 3:30 p.m. Day two (March 13) of the tournament will pit the Falcons against host Cal State Fullerton at 5:30 p.m. The final two days of the tournament the Falcons will take on two ranked opponents No.25/24 Florida (March 14) at 11:00 a.m. and No. 9/8 Oklahoma (March 15) at 11:00 a.m.

JUDI GARMAN CLASSIC MATCH-UPS ON THE DIAMOND
Falcons vs. Longhorns • (3/12 • 11:00 a.m.)
The Falcons will kick off the Judi Garman Classic against Texas ... the Longhorns are currently 16-5 overall after splitting a double-header against Cal State Northridge winning game one 10-1 and losing game two 1-4 ... the Longhorns lead the Falcons 2-0 in the all-time series ... the only two meetings between the two teams were in 1998 when the Longhorns defeated the Falcons in a double-header (0-5, 2-4).
Falcons vs. Tigers • (3/12 • 3:30 p.m.)
The Falcons will take on Pacific in game two of the Judi Garman Classic ... the Tigers are currently 9-9 overall after sweeping Northern Illinois in a double-header 4-2, 3-1 ... the Falcons lead the Tigers 4-2 in the all-time series ... the Falcons are on a two game winning streak against the Tigers defeating them in 2001 and 2005 ... the last meeting between the two teams was in 2005 as the Falcons shutout the Tigers 2-0.
Falcons vs. Titans • (3/13 • 5:30 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown are set to take on host Cal State Fullerton on day two of the tournament ... the Titans are currently 8-12 overall after going 3-1 at the Long Beach Invitational ... the Titans defeated Syracuse (4-2), Florida International (3-1) and Longwood (10-9 in 10 inns.) and fell to Iowa (3-1 in 10 inns.) ... the Titans lead the Falcons 6-0 in the all-time series ... the last meeting between the two teams was in 2005 when the Titans downed the Falcons 4-0.
Falcons vs. Seminoles • (3/14 • 11:00 a.m.)
BG will battle No. 25/24 Florida State on day three of the tournament ... the Seminoles are currently 18-5 overall after going 2-1 in a three game series against North Carolina ... the Seminoles lost the first game 1-0 and then came back to win the next two games 6-2 and 4-1 ... the Seminoles lead the Falcons 6-0 in the all-time series ... the last meeting between the two teams was in 1992 as the Seminoles beat the Falcons 4-0.
Falcons vs. Sooners • (3/15 • 11:00 a.m.)
The Falcons will end the Judi Garman Classic against No. 9/8 Oklahoma ... the Sooners are 19-6 overall after sweeping Texas Tech in a double-header 6-1 and 12-0 in five innings ... the Sooners lead the Falcons 1-0 in the all-time series ... the only meeting between the two teams took place in 1994 where the Sooners defeated the Falcons 7-2.
HOME OPENER AT MESERVE SOFTBALL FIELD
The Falcons are 18-12 on home openers in program history. Since the millennium change, BGSU is 5-4 in their home debut. Head coach Shannon Salsburg and the BGSU softball team will host their 2009 home opener and the first softball game at Meserve Softball Field on March 26 with a double-header against Purdue. The first pitch is schedule for 2:00 p.m.
SONTAG NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT
Susan Sontag was named to the Buzz Classic All-Tournament team after leading the Falcon offense with a .417 batting average, .583 slugging percentage and five hits. Sontag recorded at least one hit in four out of the five games and back-to-back games with a double, including a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored in BG's tournament opener against Western Kentucky, her second multiple hit game of the season. She came right back in the Falcon's 6-5 extra inning win over Purdue with her second double of the day in back-to-back games. Sontag currently leads the Falcons with a .370 batting average and a .519 slugging percentage with 10 hits, including two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and one RBI on the season thus far.
WIEMER NAMED LOWE'S SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Senior Hayley Wiemer was one of the 30 senior softball student-athletes named a 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Candidate (March 6). Wiemer is the only senior to represent the Mid-American Conference this year and the second straight Falcon to be named to this prestigious list as Allison Vallas was named a candidate last year.
FALCONS TOP BOILERMAKERS 6-5 IN EXTRA INNINGS
The Falcons topped regional opponent Purdue defeating the Boilermakers 6-5 in eight innings (March 6) at the Buzz Classic in their first of three meetings this season. The Falcons' win over Purdue extended their winning streak to two games over the Boilermakers.
BOTT HURLS FIRST CAREER WIN
Sophomore Melissa Bott recorded her first career collegiate win from the circle as the Falcons defeated Purdue, 6-5 in eight innings (March 6). Bott came into the game for the Falcons in relief giving up no runs and only one hit in three innings of work as she picked up her first win.
THE HOME RUN RACE
Only seven games into the 2009 season the "Home Run Race" for senior Hayley Wiemer already started. Wiemer started the season with 23 career homers only three shy of tying the all-time BG career record. Wiemer crushed her first long ball of the season and 24th of her career in her first at-bat against North Dakota State (Feb. 27), now only two shy of tying the record and three away of becoming the new all-time career home run leader.
