Falcons Head to Muncie for MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Kerrie Beach and the Falcons will pack their bags and head to Muncie, Indiana for the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday (March 21) at 1:00 p.m. The Falcons enter the MAC Championships with an overall record of 2-9 and 2-4 in the MAC and a fifth place regular season finish. TIME CHANGE FOR MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Falcon fans there has been a time change for the 2009 MAC Gymnastics Championships in Muncie, Indiana on Saturday (March 21). The MAC Championships were originally schedule for 2:00 p.m. but have been moved up an hour to a 1:00 p.m. start time.

FALCONS AT THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Falcons have a strong history and tradition at the Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships finishing in the top-four in over half of the championships in the last 28 seasons including nine top-three finishes, three first place finishes, three second place finishes and three third place finishes. In head coach Kerrie Beach's first season at the helm of the Falcons, BG finished seventh at the 2008 MAC Championships with a team score of 192.025, the squad's fourth best score of the season. While Beach has been apart of the Falcon coaching staff the Falcons have finished fourth three times and seventh twice.
FALCONS SOAR TO SECOND IN TEXAS
Head coach Kerrie Beach and the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team finished the regular season with a second place finish at the quad-meet hosted by Texas Women's University (March 13). The Falcons only finished behind No. 11 Arkansas (196.550) and ahead of Texas Women's University (193.000) and Penn (190.600). Not only was this the Falcons second best team score on the season but also marked the first meet this season where they posted a 48 or better on every event, including a season high 48.775 on vault, three tenths higher than their previous season best. The Orange and Brown recorded at least one top-10 finish in every event with a total of nine during the meet, including two top-five finishes.
FALCON FREAKY FRIDAYS
The Falcons recorded two of their three highest team scores during meets on Friday the 13ths. The Orange and Brown recorded their second highest score (193.375) at the quad-meet hosted by Texas Women's University (March 13). Earlier this season (Feb. 13) the Falcons bucked the Western Michigan Broncos, 192.975-191.600, BG's third highest team score of the season. The only team score to beat the Falcons' "Friday the 13th" performances was BG's 193.750 against No. 16 Ohio State (Feb. 22), the best team score of any squad since the 2004-05 season.
FALCONS FINISH FOURTH AT UC DAVIS
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team finished fourth at the UC Davis Quad Meet (March 8) with a score of 192.400, the fifth-highest team score of the season. The highlight of the meet was the Falcons' performance on the floor exercise. As a team the Orange and Brown combined for a score of 48.500, their second-best mark of the season on floor.
FALCONS FALL TO CHIPPEWAS TO END MAC SCHEDULE
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team wrapped up their Mid-American Conference schedule against Central Michigan, Feb. 27. The Falcons weren't quite able to record the big scores they did the previous two meets, falling to the Chippewas 195.050-192.625.
GUY EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT MAC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK HONOR
Junior Breanne Guy, Bradenton, Florida native earned her second straight Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week honor announced by the conference office (Feb. 24). Guy had her second straight record breaking meet against the Buckeyes (Feb. 22) winning two of four events finishing second in the other two events recording a 9.800 or better in every event. Guy captured her second consecutive all-around title with a career high 39.300, the third best score in program history and third best score in the MAC. Guy stuck a 9.825 and first place finish on vault, her second consecutive event win on vault and fourth of the season and tumbled her way to a career high 9.875 on floor, hitting every combination in her routine and tying the eighth best score in BG program history. Guy led the Falcons' floor line-up to a season high 49.100 defeating No. 16 Ohio State on the event (48.145). She swung her way to a 9.800 and second place finish on bars leading the Falcon bar line-up to season best, 48.700, and recorded a second place finish in beam with a 9.800.
FALCONS FALL JUST SHY OF NO. 16 OHIO STATE
Only 0.425 of a point separated the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team and No. 16 Ohio State, as the Falcons fell just shy of the Buckeyes, 194.175-193.750 (Feb. 22) in Anderson Arena on senior day. Despite the loss the Falcons recorded a season high team score, nearly a point higher than their previous season best set last weekend against Western Michigan (Feb. 13) and the best team score of any squad since the 2004-05 season.
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons own four of the six all-time series against their MAC opponents. The Falcons lead Ball State (21-12), Eastern Michigan (18-18), Northern Illinois (9-5) and Western Michigan (24-7-1). The only MAC teams to lead the Orange and Brown in their all-time series are Central Michigan (13-22) and Kent State (11-39-1).
FALCONS HONOR THEIR SENIORS
The Falcons sent their seniors, Katie Follett and Jenna Wirtanen out in style as the squad took care of business as a team and as individuals recording eight top-three finishes. In her final home meet of her collegiate career Follett came up big matching her career best on beam with a 9.700, tying for a fourth place finish. Wirtanen finished her final home collegiate meet with a career high 9.800 on floor tying for a fifth place finish.
FALCONS BUILD A NEW NEST IN 2009
The Falcon gymnasts built a new nest in Anderson Arena for all home competitions starting in 2009. This was the first season that all home gymnastics meets were held in Anderson Arena. The Falcons finished their first season in Anderson Arena with a 2-2 record. The Orange and Brown kicked off their home schedule with a 189.575-187.325 win over Ball State (Jan. 18) and ended their season in Anderson Arena against No. 16 Ohio State (Feb. 22) with a season high team score, 193.750, the highest team score since the 2005.
