Guy Qualifies for NCAA Regionals for Second Straight Season

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Junior Breanne Guy, Bradenton, Florida native, qualified for her second straight appearance at NCAA regionals in the all-around announced Monday evening (March 23) as the 2009 NCAA regional gymnastics pairings were released. Just shy of a regional appearance was red-shirt sophomore Amber Brewer who was named the alternate for the uneven bars. Guy will head to the NCAA Central regionals in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, April 4 at 6:00 p.m.

Guy qualified for regionals with a Regional Qualifying Score of 38.880 the 15th ranked all-around gymnast in the region and second ranked in the region not on a qualifying team. Guy had another outstanding year for the Falcons as she earned her second consecutive second team All-MAC honor after tying for third in the all-around and on balance beam at the Mid-American Conference Championships (March 21).
In her junior campaign Guy recorded 12 event wins and posted career highs in the all-around and in three of four events, matching her career high in the fourth event. She complied a career high 39.300 in the all-around against Ohio State (Feb. 22), the third best all-around score in program history. Guy set personal best on bars, beam and floor as she swung to a career high 9.825 on bars twice this season against Western Michigan (Feb. 13) and Central Michigan (Feb. 27), tying the eighth best score in program history, beamed her way to a career high 9.825 on beam against Kent State (Feb. 7) and tumbled to career high 9.875 on floor against Ohio State (Feb. 22), tying the eighth best score in BG history. To open the season Guy stuck a 9.875 on vault, tying her career high and the fourth best score in BG history.
Red-shirt sophomore Amber Brewer, Kettering, Ohio native was just shy of qualifying for her first NCAA regional appearance. However, after a strong season on bars for the Falcons, Brewer was named the alternate for bars with an RQS score of 9.775. Brewer competed on bars in every meet for the Falcons, recording four top-three finishes, including one event win. She recorded a 9.600 or better in every meet with a 9.725 or higher in seven of the 11 meets. Brewer swung to a career high 9.800 on bars against Central Michigan (Feb. 27).
