THE GAME
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, having advanced to national postseason play for the fifth consecutive season, is one of 16 teams remaining in the Women's National Invitation Tournament ... the Falcons of head coach Curt Miller will host Indiana University in third-round action in the WNIT ... the Falcons will meet the Hoosiers on Thursday (March 26), with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena (3,500) ... the winner of the BGSU-IU game will play either Marquette or Illinois State in the quarterfinal round ... the Falcons won their fifth-straight MAC regular-season title and advanced to the championship game of the Kraft MAC Tournament.
PLAYING DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO MARCH
As mentioned, the Falcons are participating in national postseason play for the fifth consecutive year ... for the third year in a row, BGSU has picked up at least one win in a national tournament ... Sunday's (March 22) 72-69 win over Syracuse was the program's fifth-ever win in national postseason play, and the fourth in the last three seasons ... the Falcons advanced to the 'Sweet 16' of the NCAA Championships two years ago with wins over Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt, and BGSU downed Dayton at Anderson Arena in the first round of last year's WNIT ... overall, BGSU now has a 5-11 record in national postseason play ... the Falcons are now 4-4 in such games in the Curt Miller Era.
FALCONS PICK UP 29TH WIN
The win over Syracuse gives BGSU 29 victories this season ... that total ranks second on both the school and Mid-American Conference lists ... all three of the MAC's top win totals have been compiled by the Falcons over the last four seasons ... the 2006-07 team had 31 wins en route to the NCAA `Sweet Sixteen,' a year after the 2005-06 Falcons had picked up 28 victories.
NOW THAT'S A FIVE-YEAR PLAN
Over the last five years (since the start of the 2004-05 season), the Falcons have won a total of 137 games ... BGSU has averaged over 27 wins per season during that time ... in fact, the Falcons' average win total (27.4) is greater than the program's total number of losses (27) during that five-year span ... BGSU has won five MAC regular-season titles and made five national postseason appearances in that time.
FALCONS AND THE WNIT
The Falcons are appearing in the WNIT for the second consecutive season, and the third time in the program's history ... BG has a record of 2-2 in postseason WNIT play ... 2009 marks the first time BGSU has received a first-round bye in the tournament ... the Falcons are 2-1 in WNIT home games entering Thursday's game vs. Indiana ... 11 years ago, BG dropped a first-round game to Butler at Anderson Arena, 95-90 ... last season, the Brown and Orange defeated Dayton at home by a 64-52 count, before losing at Michigan State, 74-66, in the second round.
Date -- Opponent -- Score
March 13, 1998 -- BUTLER -- L, 90-95
March 20, 2008 -- DAYTON -- W, 64-52
March 22, 2008 -- at Michigan State -- L, 66-74
March 22, 2009 -- SYRACUSE -- W, 72-69

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Lauren Prochaska came up big at both ends of the floor when her BGSU teammates needed her, helping the Falcons to a thrilling 72-69 win over Syracuse in WNIT second-round action at Anderson Arena Sunday afternoon (March 22) ... Prochaska had 22 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, playing all 40 minutes ... she hit a rainbow three-pointer that gave the Falcons the lead for good with 3:30 left in the game, and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final minute-and-a-half ... then, at the defensive end of the floor, Prochaska picked up two of the biggest blocked shots of her career ... with the Falcons leading by that 72-69 score, the soph swatted a three-point shot by Tasha Harris out of bounds with 2.0 seconds remaining ... then, on the final play, she tipped Erica Morrow's three-point try from the corner as the buzzer sounded ... junior Niki McCoy had 20 points and six rebounds off the bench, while soph Tracy Pontius scored 19 points in the win ... Pontius, like Prochaska, played all 40 minutes ... Nicole Michael led the Orange with 22 points and 13 rebounds ... Chandrea Jones had 13 points and nine boards, while Morrow scored 11 points for the visitors ... Michael made 10 of her 16 shots from the field, while the BGSU defense held her teammates to 15-of-51 (29.4 percent) combined shooting ... the Falcons led for only a few seconds during the game's first 36-and-a-half minutes, prior to Prochaska's three-point field goal.
SCOUTING INDIANA
Indiana enters Thursday's game with an overall record of 20-10 ... the Hoosiers posted a Big Ten Conference record of 11-7, good for a fifth-place tie in the final standings ... IU defeated Michigan in the first round of the conference tournament, before losing to Purdue by just four points in the quarterfinal round ... the Hoosiers posted a 59-57 home win over Dayton in the WNIT's second round on Sunday (March 22), winning on an alley-oop tip-in in the final 00.2 seconds ... IU's 20-win season is the program's first since 2000-01, and the team's 11 Big Ten wins is the most since the 1984-85 season ... the Hoosiers have a road record of 9-5, including wins over Missouri, Miami (Fla.), West Virginia and Michigan State away from home this year ... individually, senior forward Amber Jackson leads a balanced scoring attack with 13.0 points per game ... she also has 6.9 rebounds per contest to rank second on the team ... junior point guard Jamie Braun has 12.6 points and a team-leading 3.7 assists per outing, while sophomore guard Jori Davis and senior forward Whitney Thomas each have 11.7 ppg ... Thomas has a team-leading 8.8 rpg ... senior G/F Kim Roberson has 9.9 ppg and a team-high 2.8 steals per game ... Braun and Thomas each were named to the All-Big Ten Second Team by the league's coaches, while Jackson earned honorable mention and Roberson was named to the league's All-Defensive Team ... those five players - Braun, Davis, Jackson, Roberson and Thomas - comprise the probable starting lineup for head coach Felisha Legette-Jack ... Legette-Jack welcomed back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's team that went 18-15 overall and 10-8 in conference play ... Legette-Jack has a record of 57-39 in her third year in Bloomington, and is 111-102 in her seventh season as a collegiate head coach ... the school's athletics web site is IUHoosiers.com.
THE SERIES
The Falcons trail Indiana, 3-2, in the all-time series between the teams ... the Falcons and Hoosiers are meeting for the fourth consecutive season ... IU won the most recent meeting, 75-67, in Bloomington last season (Dec. 16, 2007) ... prior to that, however, the Brown and Orange had captured two-straight meetings, including a 68-50 win at Assembly Hall in the championship game of the Hampton Inn Classic (Nov. 26, 2005) ... in the only previous meeting at Anderson Arena, the Falcons downed IU by an 82-47 score two seasons ago (Dec. 6, 2006) ... the other two series meetings, both IU home wins, took place in the early 1980s ... Curt Miller has a record of 2-1 vs. the Hoosiers in his Falcon head-coaching tenure ... the boxscores from each of the last two meetings can be found in the PDF version of this comprehensive, never-tedious game notes package.
FRIENDLY FOES
Falcon head coach Curt Miller and his Indiana counterpart, Felisha Legette-Jack, likely know just a little bit about the coaching styles and tendencies of the other ... Miller and Legette-Jack spent four seasons together on the coaching staff at Syracuse ... Legette-Jack, currently in her third year at IU, was with the Orange for seven years, from 1993-2000 ... Miller was on the staff for four of those years, from 1994-95 to 1997-98.

FALCONS PUT HOMECOURT WINNING STREAK ON LINE
The Falcons' homecourt winning streak will be on the line when Indiana comes to town ... BGSU has won 19-straight games at Anderson Arena ... the Falcons won the last five contests of 2007-08 at "The House That Roars," and BG has reeled off 14-straight home wins during the '08-09 season to date ... the Falcons' current streak is tied for the fifth longest in the nation.
FALCONS LIKE THE BIG CROWDS
The fans have turned out in droves to watch BGSU play this season, and the Falcons have thrived on the big crowds ... after the win over Syracuse, BG now has a record of 20-1 this season when playing in front of a crowd of 1,000 or more ... when the attendance is in excess of 2,000, the Falcons are 9-1 ... BG has had four-digit crowds at all 14 home games this year ... six of those games, including each of the last five, have seen more than 2,000 fans file through the turnstiles at "The House That Roars."
HOME COOKIN'
The Falcons, as mentioned, now have a 14-0 record at home this year ... BG has set a new school record for home wins in a season ... the 1988-89 and 1992-93 teams each went 13-1 at Anderson Arena.
McCOY STEPS UP AT TOURNAMENT TIME
Falcon junior Niki McCoy has done rather well in tournaments this year ... in BGSU's eight tournament games (including both in-season tournaments and postseason action), McCoy leads the team with 17.4 points per game ... she has shot 57.8% in those eight games ... McCoy was named the MVP of both of BGSU's in-season tourneys, at UNC-Greensboro and Dayton, and also was named to the MAC's All-Tournament Team in Cleveland.
IN THE LAST FIVE...
BGSU junior Niki McCoy has averaged 17.4 points per game over the Falcons' last five contests ... she has made 54.2% of her shots in that time ... soph Tracy Pontius leads the Falcons with 18.0 ppg during that five-game span.
LO IS A HIGH FLYER
Sophomore Lauren Prochaska put up impressive numbers on Sunday (March 22), with 22 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in the Falcons' win over Syracuse ... she hit a rainbow three-pointer to give BGSU the lead for good with 3:30 left ... but, Prochaska's most important number may have been the '2' in the blocked shot column ... with BG leading by three points in the final seconds, the soph soared to swat a three-point shot by SU's Tasha Harris ... the ball went out of bounds to the Orange with 2.0 seconds remaining ... then, on the final play, she got a piece of Erica Morrow's triple try from the corner as the buzzer sounded.
GOLDEN NUGGET: LINDSEY IN A CLASS BY HERSELF
Lindsey Goldsberry, the lone senior on the 2008-09 Falcon squad, has experienced success - a lot of success - since her arrival on campus ... the Falcons' win at Buffalo on Feb. 25 made Goldsberry the winningest player - man or woman - in MAC basketball history ... the Falcons now have a record of 114-19 since 'Golds' ventured to Northwest Ohio prior to the start of the 2005-06 season ... a few more Goldsberry-related notes ...
• The 'old' MAC record was held by last year's BGSU women's basketball senior class, which consisted of Kate Achter and Whitney Taylor ... that duo helped the Falcons go 108-23 during their careers;
• The Falcons have posted at least 26 wins in each of Goldsberry's four seasons in the Brown and Orange, including three of the four highest win totals in MAC women's basketball history (28 wins her freshman year, a conference-record 31 her sophomore season, and 29 this season);
• Despite the March 4 loss at Miami, BG finished 59-5 in MAC regular-season play and went 68-7 against conference opponents (9-2 in the MAC Tournament) during Goldsberry's four years;
• Perhaps the most impressive note? Goldsberry never lost to seven of the 11 MAC opponents during her career, including Akron (8-0), Buffalo (8-0), Central Michigan (5-0), Eastern Michigan (5-0), Kent State (10-0), Northern Illlinois (5-0) and arch-rival Toledo (7-0) ... BG's seven losses to MAC opponents during Goldsberry's career came vs. Ohio in February of 2007; Miami, Ball State and Western Michigan during a three-game span in January of 2008; OU again in the semifinal round of last year's conference tournament in Cleveland; MU in the second-to-last game of the regular season; and BSU in the MAC Tournament championship game;
• Goldsberry's Falcon teams had a record of 29-3 in home games vs. MAC opponents, 9-2 in neutral-site contests vs. league foes (all in Cleveland), and a mind-boggling 30-2 mark in road games vs. conference competition;
• Goldsberry's former high-school classmate is the winningest manager in MAC hoops history ... Randall Clark, like Goldsberry a graduate of Chaminade-Julienne High School in Dayton, is a senior at BGSU, and is in his fourth year as a student manager with the Falcons.
THE FALCONS ARE ...
• 29-4 overall this season;
• 29-2 in the last 31 games, after an 0-2 start to the season;
• 15-1 in MAC play, good for a fifth consecutive league regular-season title;
• 5-11 in 12 national postseason appearances (including a 3-9 record in the NCAA Championships and a 2-2 mark in WNIT trips);
• 179-72 since Curt Miller took the BGSU helm in May of 2001;
• 94-34 in MAC games in that time;
• 4-4 in national postseason action under Miller (including a 2-3 mark in the NCAAs and a 2-1 record in the WNIT);
• 170-53 overall in the six-plus years since Miller's assistant coaches have all been in place (associate head coach Jennifer Roos and assistant coach Brandi Poole have been on Miller's staff since his first year; assistant Kevin Eckert joined the staff one year later);
• 158-37 over the last five-plus years, with 2008-09 marking BG's sixth-straight season of at least 20 wins;
• a staggering 137-27 in the past four-plus years, with no fewer than 23 wins in each year and a MAC regular-season title in every season;
• an eye-popping 114-19 overall and 59-5 in the MAC regular season in the last three-plus years, since senior Lindsey Goldsberry ventured to Northwest Ohio;
• 86-16 in the last two-plus years, including a 43-5 conference ledger, since juniors Tara Breske, Laura Bugher and Sarah Clapper joined the program;
• 55-12 overall, and 28-4 in MAC regular-season games, since sophomores Chelsea Albert, Tracy Pontius, Lauren Prochaska, Jen Uhl and Kelly Zuercher began their respective playing careers at BGSU;
• 74-7 in the last 81 games vs. MAC opponents (including regular-season and tourney games);
• 36-4 in MAC home games in the last five seasons;
• 30-2 in MAC road games over the last four years (with the lone losses during that time coming last season at Ball State and earlier this March at Miami);
• 12-2 in the MAC Tournament over the last five years, with three titles (2005, '06 and '07), a championship-game appearance this season, and a trip to the semifinals in 2008;
• 36-16 overall in the MAC Tournament since it was instituted in 1982;
• 24-11 in MAC Tournament contests played at a neutral site;
• 14-4 at Gund/Quicken Loans Arena;
• 15-5 in MAC Tournament games in the Curt Miller Era;
• 14-3 at "The Gund"/"The Q" under Miller;
• 23-2 in non-conference home games since the start of the 2003-04 season (including the WNIT win over Syracuse);
• 19-1 against non-league foes at Anderson Arena since November of 2004;
• 0-1 in the third round of a national postseason tournament (a 67-49 loss to Arizona State in the 'Sweet Sixteen' of the 2007 NCAA Championships); and
• 0-0 in games played on March 26 in program history (BG has never played later into the spring than March 24 - that ASU game).
TIMES HAVE CHANGED...
As mentioned, the Falcons will play on March 26 of this year against Indiana, the latest the team has ever played into the spring ... ten years ago, the BGSU women's basketball team dropped a MAC Tournament quarterfinal game at Akron's James A. Rhodes Arena ... that game ended the Falcons' 1998-99 season - on February 26.
CRADLE OF COACHES
Both BGSU basketball coaches picked up some hardware this season ... Falcon men's coach Louis Orr was named the MAC Coach of the Year March 9, and Curt Miller was announced as a co-recipient of the same honor the following evening.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Sophomore Lauren Prochaska had 22 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in the Falcons' win over Syracuse ... the double-double was her third of the season and the seventh of her BGSU career ... juniors Tara Breske and Niki McCoy each have two double-doubles this season to date.
LONG-RANGE SUCCESS
Sharp-shooting sophomores Lauren Prochaska and Tracy Pontius each have hit over 70 three-pointers this season, the first time in school history that two players have topped that mark in the same year ... Pontius now has 75 triples this season, the second-highest total in BGSU history ... she is just three away from Angie Farmer's school record of 78, set in 1999-2000 ... Prochaska has hit 73 shots from beyond the arc, ranking fourth on the school single-season chart.
LONG-RANGE SUCCESS II
Sophomore Lauren Prochaska is the first player in BGSU history to make over 70 triples in two different seasons ... as mentioned, Angie Farmer (1999-2000) holds the school record, with 78 triples made ... Prochaska hit 74 shots from behind the arc as a freshman last season, before making 73 this season to date ... Pontius, as mentioned above, has hit 75 three-point shots so far in 2008-09.
THIRTY
A BGSU player has scored at least 30 points in a game five times this year ... Lauren Prochaska has done so on three occasions, including a school-record 43-point outing in the regular-season win over Central Michigan ... with her 32-point outburst vs. Toledo in the MAC Tournament, Tracy Pontius has now scored over 30 points twice in '08-09 ... prior to this season, a BGSU player had scored 30 points a total of five times in the first seven years of the Curt Miller Era.
CAPTAINS
Senior Lindsey Goldsberry and junior Tara Breske are the co-captains of the 2008-09 women's basketball Falcons.
