Guy Heads to Columbus for NCAA Central Region Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Junior Breanne Guy, Bradenton, Florida native, will head to St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio to compete in the 2009 NCAA Central Region Championships Saturday (April 4) at 6:00 p.m. Guy qualified for her second straight appearance at the NCAA regionals in the all-around after compiling a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 38.880 the 15th ranked all-around gymnast in the central region and second ranked in the central region not on a qualifying team.
Guy had another outstanding year for the Falcons as she earned her second consecutive second team All-MAC honor after tying for third in the all-around and on balance beam at the Mid-American Conference Championships (March 21). Guy was also named MAC Gymnast of the Week in back-to-back weeks this season (Feb. 17 & 24).
In her junior campaign Guy recorded 12 event wins and posted career highs in the all-around and in three of four events, matching her career high in the fourth event. She complied a career high 39.300 in the all-around against Ohio State (Feb. 22), the third best all-around score in program history. Guy set personal best on bars, beam and floor as she swung to a career high 9.825 on bars twice this season against Western Michigan (Feb. 13) and Central Michigan (Feb. 27), tying the eighth best score in program history, beamed her way to a career high 9.825 on beam against Kent State (Feb. 7) and tumbled to career high 9.875 on floor against Ohio State (Feb. 22), tying the eighth best score in BG history. To open the season Guy stuck a 9.875 on vault, tying her career high and the fourth best score in BG history.
After Saturday's meet six teams, five all-around competitors who are not on a qualifying team and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six regional championships. The top two teams and all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) for each region will receive an automatic bid to the national championship in Lincoln, Neb. April 16-18, hosted by the University of Nebraska. Also, the event winner at the regional championships will advance (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
THE SECOND TIME AROUND
The second time around has been a huge success for junior Breanne Guy who will compete in her second straight NCAA Central Region Championships on Saturday (April 4). Guy had a strong season for the Falcons with 12 regular season event wins, back-to-back MAC Gymnast of the Week honors (Feb. 17 & 24) and two medals at the 2009 MAC Championships, finishing third in the all-around and on the balance beam improving on her fifth place all-around finish and ninth place finish on floor in 2008. She will look to do the same Saturday (April 4) at the 2009 NCAA Central Region Championships.
