CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University senior Stefanie Menoff has been named Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon (April 1). Menoff earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Menoff, a native of Naperville, Ill. (Neuqua Valley H.S.), earned the award after going a perfect 4-0 last weekend, tying a school record in the process. The Falcons picked up a pair of home victories, defeating Toledo, 4-3, on Friday (March 27) at Keefe Courts, then downing Eastern Michigan by a 6-1 result the next day at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Menoff won at both singles and doubles in each dual match over the weekend. Her singles win vs. EMU on Saturday was her 79th as a Falcon, tying the school career record. That victory also gave the Falcons their fourth point of the day, clinching the win over the Eagles. In that match, Menoff picked up a straight-sets win over Eastern's Marcela Rivero (6-2, 6-1) at the fifth flight.
Also in that match, Menoff teamed with fellow senior Libby Harrison for a convincing 8-2 win at the third doubles flight.
The prior day, Menoff and Harrison won in doubles vs. the Rockets, and Menoff then rallied to win in singles after losing the opening set. She lost her first set vs. UT's Jessica Azoulay, then picked up a 6-4 win in the second set and a 6-1 victory in the third set.
Menoff is now 11-2 in dual-match action in singles, including a 9-1 mark at the fifth flight, this year. Overall, she has a team-best record of 18-4 in singles this season, and is an impressive 79-19 in her career.
As mentioned, Menoff has tied the school career record with those 79 singles wins. She now has 125 total victories as a Falcon, to rank 12th in BG history, Menoff is just two wins shy of moving into the BGSU top-10 on the latter list.
Menoff shared this week's conference honor with Western Michigan's Emily Dudzik.
The Falcons are 9-4 in dual-match play, and head coach Penny Dean's team is 2-1 in MAC action, heading into the weekend. The Brown and Orange will head to the MAC's 'West Coast' for a Friday (April 3) match at Northern Illinois University. That match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. ET).
