Men's Golf Eighth at UK Bluegrass Invitational; Schneider Tied For Tournament Lead

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team had a strong showing on day one at the UK Bluegrass, carding a 607 to sit in eighth. The Falcons, who opened with a 300, carded a 307 in round two to sit just 11 shots out of second-place.
Host, Kentucky, leads the 17-team field with a score of 582. They are followed by Western Carolina (591), Toledo (596), Central Florida (600) and Miami (600) to round out the top five.
Highlight of the day for the Orange and Brown came from Matt Schneider, who will sleep tonight (Apr. 11) in a tie for the tournament lead. The junior opened with a 1-under, 71, and followed that with a 72. Schneider and Kentucky's Ben Fuqua are the lone golfers among the 90-player field to be below-par.
Parker Hewit is tied for 35th with a 36-hole score of 152. The freshman opened with a 2-over, 74, and followed that up with a 78.
Co-captain John Powers is tied for 41st with a score of 154, two shots behind Hewit. The Bowling Green, Ohio, native fired back-to-back 77's on day one.
Rounding out the Falcon golfers were freshman Drew Preston (78-80 - 158, T-62nd) and Scott Blackburn (81-80 - 161, T-75th).
The third and final round begins on Easter Sunday morning.
