How Low Can You Go
Three members of the BGSU women's golf team are establishing new career-low scoring averages in 2008-09, led by Megan Gormley, Megan Bader and Marisa Glew. Gormley, who is averaging 81.20 through 25 rounds, is more than five strokes better than her 2007-08 average of 86.57. Bader's average of 83.28 is more than two strokes better than her freshman average of 85.75 and Marisa Smith has lowered her scoring average by almost two strokes per round, dropping from 84.75 (as a freshman) to her 82.88 average this season.
Falcons Playing Their Best Golf Right Now
With the MAC Championships on the horizon, the Falcons seemed to be finding their groove at the right time, carding a 322 last Wednesday in round two of the Falcon Invitational, their lowest round this spring by six strokes.
Individually they are doing just as well. Lauren Glew is coming off an 11th place finish at the Falcon Invitational, Gormley is averaging 80.0 her last two tournaments, Marisa Glew is averaging 83.50 in her last four rounds, Bader has an 82.40 stroke average her last two tournaments and freshman Paula DiFrancesco carded an 82 on day two of the Falcon Invitational, her lowest score of the spring season.
Last Time Out
The Bowling Green State University women's golf team battled the wind and rain through 36 holes of action, firing a 322, the lowest score of the six teams on day two to finish third at the Falcon Invitational, held at Stoneridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Of the day two scoring the Falcons' 322 beat out five other squads, followed by Toledo (322), Ohio (325), Oakland (327), Youngstown State (328) and Detroit (342).
Fellow Mid-American Conference opponents, Toledo (639) and Ohio (646) finished first and second in the total team scoring, while BGSU (651) was followed by Youngstown State (666), Oakland (674) and Detroit (691).
The Orange and Brown placed three golfers in the top-11 spots, led by Megan Gormley. The junior carded a 77 on Wednesday afternoon, the lowest individual score among the 37 golfers. Combined with her 81 on Tuesday (158 total), Gormley finished fourth, her best performance of the season.
Megan Bader was not far off the pace, finishing in a tie for seventh with a 36-hole score of 162. The sophomore carded back-to-back 81's for one of her top place finishes this season.
Not to be outdone was Lauren Glew, who fired a 165 (83-82). The junior finished in a tie for 11th.
Rounding out the Falcon scoring was Marisa Glew (84-84-168, T-18th), Paula DiFrancesco (95-82-177, T-30th) and Hannah Lambert (93-97-190, 35th).
