Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Louis Orr has announced the commitments of two players for the 2009-10 season. La Salle High School (Cincinnati, Ohio) senior Jordon Crawford and Finney High School (Detroit, Mich.) senior DaVon Haynes have both accepted scholarships to play for the Falcons.
Crawford, who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, is the second player from La Salle High School to sign to play at Bowling Green next year. Teammate Danny McElroy, along with Findlay's Luke Kraus, both announced their intentions during the early signing period in November.
At 5-foot-6, Crawford averaged 17.4 points, 4.2 assists and 3.5 steals as La Salle went 23-2 during his senior season. He was a second team all-state player, the Greater Catholic League South Division Player of the Year, and the Greater Catholic League Defensive Player of the Year. Crawford was also an Enquirer Division I first team all-area selection.
"Jordon brings speed and quickness to the team," Orr, the 2009 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, said. "He is a high tempo guy who brings another dynamic to our team. He puts pressure on the other team on both sides of the ball, can shoot the three, and makes his teammates better. Jordon's a well-rounded guy who does well in the classroom and is fun to watch."
A 6-foot-7 forward, Haynes was an all-conference player after averaging a double-double with 15.0 points and 13.5 rebounds. He also has a knack for blocking shots, averaging 7.5 per game. He is an athletic big man who will add depth to a punishing Bowling Green front line.
"DaVon is a high energy guy who really goes after the ball," Orr said. "He is an athletic finisher and someone whose best years are still ahead of him. DaVon is an exceptional athlete and has huge upside. Along with that, he is a high character guy."
The Bowling Green men's basketball team went 19-14 in 2008-09, sharing the MAC Eastern Division regular season championship with Buffalo. Due to a season sweep of the Bulls, the Falcons earned the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament and a bid to the National Invitation Tournament. Bowling Green advanced to the MAC Tournament semifinals and eventually lost to top-seeded Creighton by just two points in the opening round of the NIT. Orr was named MAC Coach of the Year for guiding the team to a six-win improvement over the 2007-08 season.
