LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seniors TaKarra Dunning and Whitney Hartman will travel to Louisville, Ky., for the 2009 Outdoor Mideast Regionals on May 29-30, hosted by the University of Louisville. The two-day event will take place in Cardinal Park.
Dunning will compete in the shot put, where she ranks 22nd in the region and 53rd nationally with a season-best mark of 50-01.25, set last week at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Dunning will be competing in her fourth consecutive regionals, having qualified in each of her last three seasons for the Falcons. Dunning is also coming off her best season for the Orange and Brown, finishing first in the shot put three times this season (Toledo Invitational, Detroit Titan Classic and Toledo Challenge).
Hartman will be competing in the hammer throw, shot put and discus at this week's regionals. The hammer throw has been her strongest event throughout the season, finishing first in four different meets during the outdoor season (Toledo Invitational, Len Paddock, Toledo Challenge and Detroit Titan Classic). Hartman currently ranks 17th in the region and 41st nationally in the shot put with a mark of 189-07.
Like Dunning, Hartman is no stranger to regionals. This will be the Bowling Green, Ohio, native's third trip to the Mideast Regionals, but the first time she has qualified in three different events. In the shot put she is coming off her best performance of the season, finishing sixth at the MAC Championships with a mark of 49-11.75, which ranks 23rd in the region and 56th nationally.
Her third and final event will be the discus, where once again she posted a career-best mark of 159-10 this past weekend at the MAC Championships. That mark ranks 22nd in the region and 78th nationally.
