Blanton, Meisler Earn Spots On Academic All-MAC Baseball Team

Bowling Green State University baseball players T.J. Blanton and Logan Meisler were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the league office announced today. It is the first time either players has earned a spot on the team and they are the first BG selections to the team since 2005.
There were 16 players selected to the academic team from the 12 teams in the league. The faculty athletic representative from each school votes on the team. To qualify, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.20 and have participated in at least 50% of the contests over the course of the season.
Blanton, who played in all 50 games this season starting 46, 45 of those in center field, has a 3.33 GPA in health science. The Sandusky, Ohio native and graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School hit .341 from the #9 spot in the batting order with 23 extra-base hits, third on the team, and 44 runs scored, also third on the squad. Blanton had 11 doubles, four triples and eight home runs for a .585 slugging percentage, which was fourth-best on the team. He also had just four errors in 118 chances from his outfield position and he led the team with nine sacrifices.
Blanton, a junior, had previously this season been a second team academic all-district selection. Blanton has hit .341 in his career at BG.
Meisler, who was a first team All-MAC selection at second base, has a 3.26 GPA in marketing. The Port Clinton, Ohio native also played in all 50 games this season, making 44 starts at second. The BGSU junior was fifth on the team with a career-best .361 batting average. Meisler had 45 RBI, third on the team, and 36 runs scored this season. He hit safely in 36 contests and had an RBI in 27 games while hitting from the #5 spot in the order most of the season.
Meisler was at his best coming down the stretch for the Falcons hitting safely in eight of BG's last nine games collecting 17 RBI and scoring 16 runs during the period. Meisler hit .455 (20-of-44) in the last nine games of the season.
Both players were integral members of the 2009 squad which captured the MAC regular season and East Division titles for the second successive season. Bowling Green completed the season with a 28-22 record and was the #1 seed in the league tournament after posting an 18-8 mark in league play. It is the ninth time in the last 12 seasons the Falcons have won at least 28 games.
