Curt Miller Named to WBCA Board of Directors

BGSU head coach appointed to board of national organization
"I am excited about my appointment to the board by WBCA CEO Beth Bass and WBCA President Geno Auriemma," said Miller. "I am joining an elite group of coaches that will keep working hard to build the game of women's basketball."
Miller and San Diego State head coach Beth Burns were appointed to the board to fill the positions of Northern Illinois coach Carol Owens and Arizona State coach Charli Turner-Thorne, after Owens and Turner-Thorne were named to the WBCA's Executive Committee. Turner-Thorne has been named the new Vice President as she follows in the footsteps of Connecticut's Geno Auriemma, who will take the reins as WBCA President in August. Owens has been named to the Secretary position, taking over for Bonnie Henrickson (Kansas).
Miller is also actively involved in several other committees. The winningest coach in BGSU women's basketball history, he is the chair of the Russell Athletic/WBCA National Coach of the Year Committee. Miller is also a member of the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee and the WBCA Legislative Sub-Committee.
Also joining the WBCA Board of Directors in 2009 are Indiana's Jose Mori (Division I/Midwest) and Minnesota's Barbara Smith (Assistant Coaches). The six reappointed or reelected members include Hartford's Jennifer Rizzotti (Division I/East); Joanne Boyle of California-Berkeley (Division I/West); Oregon State's LaVonda Wagner (Division I/At-Large on BOD and EC); Tom Collen of Arkansas (Male Coaches of Women's Basketball); Southwestern University's Pam Ruder (Division III/At-Large) and Vanguard University's Russ Davis (NAIA).
"I am pleased to have my fellow peers join our Executive Committee and Board of Directors," said Auriemma. "Charli and Carol bring a vast amount of experience in the sport and will provide further insight for WBCA membership. With the additions and return of a fantastic group of coaches and administrators, the Board will continue to make strides in building the game of women's basketball on the national level."
The remaining members of the WBCA Executive Committee include: Terri Mitchell, Marquette (Treasurer); Pam Ruder, Southwestern University (Division III/At Large); Sherri Coale, Oklahoma (Past President) and Carolyn Campbell-McGovern, Ivy League (CBI Chair).??Other members of the WBCA Board of Directors include: Sue Semrau, Florida State (Division I/At-Large); Coquese Washington, Penn State (Division I/At-Large); Gie Parsons, Clarion (Division II); Carmen Dolfo, Western Washington (Division III); Nan Carney-DeBord, Ohio Wesleyan (Division III/At-Large); Michael Landers, Baton Rouge Community College (JC/CC); Kathy Richey-Walton, Southwest DeKalb High School (High School); Charlene Thomas Swinson, Tulsa (Black Coaches Administrators); Muffet McGraw, Notre Dame (Division I/Legislative Chair); Sue Ramsey, Ashland (Division II/Legislative Chair); Karen Tessmer, Worcester State College (Division III Legislative Chair); Patrick Nero, America East Conference (CCA) and Donna Orender, WNBA President (WNBA).
Nominees for the WBCA Board of Directors Executive Committee openings are selected by the WBCA nominating committee, while the WBCA membership sends in nominations for the Board of Director openings. All openings are voted on by head coaches, assistant coaches and directors of basketball operations at Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and JC/CC who are current members of the WBCA.
All Board of Director positions that do not sit on the Executive Committee serve a three-year term, with the opportunity to run for a second term. The WBCA Board of Directors develops policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the organization. They also monitor the organization's financial health, programs and overall performance and provide the chief executive officer with the resources to meet the needs of those the organization serves.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
