Tennis Falcons Set to Open Season with BGSU Invitational
September 17, 2009 | Women's Tennis
The Bowling Green State University tennis team begins the 2009-10 season this weekend, hosting the BGSU Invitational. The two-day, 10-team event will be held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 19-20) at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.

Keefe Courts are located on Stadium Drive, between Steller Field (baseball) and the Meserve Softball Field. Parking is available at the BGSU Ice Arena, located just across Stadium Drive from the courts.
Some matches will be held at the courts across the street from the new facility (the former Keefe Courts). Those courts are located behind the Ice Arena, near the Cochrane Soccer Stadium complex.
Play begins at 9:00 a.m. each day.
Head coach Penny Dean enters her 20th season at the BGSU helm. She and the Falcons will host a tourney field that includes Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, IPFW, IUPUI, Xavier and Youngstown State. Team scores will not be kept, but individual champions will be crowned at each of the nine singles and four doubles flights.
Dean's eight-player roster includes only three players who have extensive collegiate experience. That list includes a pair of seniors, Katia Babina and Samantha Kintzel, along with junior Christine Chiricosta.
Sophomore Jessica Easdale returns after missing most of her freshman season due to injury. The roster also includes junior Mary-Catherine Beck, a transfer from Mount Union, as well as freshmen Maddy Eccleston, Katelyn Grubb and Jade Johnson.
The BGSU Invitational is the first of three tourneys on the Falcons' fall schedule. BG will venture to Cincinnati for the Queen City Invitational on Oct. 2-4, and the Falcons will head to Nashville, Tenn., for the Belmont Invitational on Oct. 23-24.
