Falcons Wrap Up Play at BGSU Invitational

Falcon freshman Jade Johnson was BGSU's lone individual flight champion, winning all three of her weekend matches at the eighth flight. She downed IPFW's Alex Forsyth in the championship match on Sunday.
Team scores were not kept in the two-day, 10-team match, but individual champions were crowned in each of nine singles and four doubles flights. In addition to the host Falcons, the other competing schools included Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, IPFW, IUPUI, Xavier and Youngstown State.
Three other Falcons earned runner-up placings in singles action. Junior Christine Chiricosta finished second at the top flight, while senior Samantha Kintzel advanced to the championship match at the fourth flight before succumbing. Sophomore Jessica Easdale picked up a second-place finish at flight number seven.
Chiricosta and freshman Maddy Eccleston teamed up to advance to the championship match at the top doubles flight. After downing duos from Youngstown State and Eastern Michigan, the Falcon tandem lost to UA's Angelina Jogasuria and Zara Harutyunyan in the final.
On the weekend, BGSU competitors combined to go 13-11 in singles play and 5-7 in doubles action.
Akron led the way with five singles flight titles and three doubles crowns. The Zips earned titles at each of the top-four singles flights and the top-three doubles levels.
For the Falcons, Chiricosta and Johnson each went a combined 4-2 on the weekend. Three other Falcons -- Easdale, Eccleston and Kintzel -- had 3-3 records.

BGSU is next in action on Oct. 2-4, when the Falcons head to Cincinnati for the Queen City Invitational.
