BGSU captures doubles point; Chiricosta picks up singles & doubles wins
Host University of Louisville won five of the six singles matches to pick up a 5-2 win over the Bowling Green State University tennis team Saturday afternoon (Jan. 16). The match, the dual-match opener for both teams, was held at UL's Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Junior Christine Chiricosta was victorious in both singles and doubles for the Falcons, teaming with freshman Maddy Eccleston for an 8-3 win at the top doubles flight and picking up a straight-sets singles victory at the number-one singles flight.
In doubles play, senior Katia Babina teamed with freshman Jade Johnson for an 8-5 win at the second flight, giving the Falcons the doubles point. However, Chiricosta was the lone BGSU winner in singles play, as UL captured the remaining five flights to win the match.
Head coach Penny Dean's lineup included two seniors, one junior and three freshmen in singles, and two seniors, a junior, a sophomore and a pair of frosh in doubles.
The Falcons remain in Louisville for a neutral-site match vs. Morehead State University on Sunday (Jan. 17). That dual is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
