September 09, 2009 | Women's Soccer
Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Alexa Arsenault has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning (Sept. 9). Arsenault earns the honor for the first time this season and the second time in her Falcon career.
Arsenault, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario (St. Theresa of Lisieux), had a 2-0-0 record and a goals-against average of 0.00 last weekend, helping the Falcon defense post a pair of shutout wins.
In the process, Arsenault became the BGSU career leader in complete-game shutouts.
On Friday (Sept. 4) at Detroit, Arsenault played the first 66-plus minutes of the Falcons' 4-0 win, being called upon to make one save. She shared that shutout with redshirt freshman Becca Ison, who came on to play the final 23-plus minutes.
Then, on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 6) at Cochrane Field, Arsenault played all 90 minutes of the Falcons' 1-0 victory over IPFW. She made five stops, including saves on a pair of breakaways, to pick up the record-setting shutout win.
On the season, Arsenault has a total of 18 saves and a GAA of 0.93.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards, 3-2-0 on the young season, continue a three-game homestand this weekend. BGSU will face St. Bonaventure in Friday action (Sept. 11), with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field. Then, the Brown and Orange will host Youngstown State on Sunday (Sept. 13), beginning at 1:00 p.m.
