Bowling Green State University women's basketball junior Lauren Prochaska has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Jan. 11). Prochaska earns the honor for the third time this season and the eighth time in her Falcon career.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), averaged 20.0 points per game as the Falcons went 2-0 to begin the MAC schedule. She shot .522 from the field in the two games, including an impressive 7-of-11 (.636) from three-point range. Prochaska also averaged 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as the Falcons picked up wins over Akron and Ohio.
Against Akron on Wednesday (Jan. 6), Prochaska led BG with 23 points in a 74-62 win at venerable Anderson Arena, "The House That Roars." She added three assists, two steals and a blocked shot vs. the Zips, going 3-of-6 from behind the arc in that victory.
In Saturday's (Jan. 9) game at Ohio, Prochaska scored 17 points, going 4-of-5 from three-point range as the Falcons posted the most lopsided win in series history, 77-42.
On the season, Prochaska is averaging 18.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, leading the Brown and Orange in both categories. She also paces the Falcons with 40 three-pointers made. Prochaska has 1,380 career points, the 12th-highest total in school history, and has scored in double digits in 76 of her 84 games to date.
Prochaska earned this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division, while Marke Freeman of Northern Illinois was named the MAC P-O-W in the West.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 12-4 overall and 2-0 in MAC play, return home to face Buffalo in Wednesday (Jan. 13) action, with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Anderson.
