Falcons Kickoff Season With Tri-Meet Versus #12 Michigan and Iowa

The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team kicks off its 2010 season by facing a pair of Big Ten opponents in No. 12 Michigan and Iowa this Saturday (Jan. 9) inside Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet will begin at 6 p.m.

The Falcons, led by third-year head coach Kerrie Beach, are coming off a fourth-place finish at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championships, their highest finish since the 2004-05 campaign.

BGSU returns 11 letter-winners from last season, including four seniors (Morgan Balzer, Megan Chronister, Queenita Gamble and Breanne Guy). Guy has advanced to Regionals in each of the past two years, finishing 16th in the all-around in 2008 and just missing out on Nationals in 2009, finishing 10th in the all-around.

Oh Captain, My Captain
Bowling Green has announced its three captains for the 2010 season: Senior Morgan Balzer, junior Amber Brewer and sophomore Kasey Fillmore.

Freshman Orientation
Three freshmen join the Falcons lineup this season, led by Monica Eaton (Kearney, Mo.), Sunny Marchand (Pelham, New Hampshire) and Danielle Wishart (Bethesda, Mary.).

Gymnastics Competes in the “House That Roars”
BGSU Gymnastics team, while at home, will compete in Anderson Arena, also known as the “House That Roars” in all three home meets this season. They host Northern Illinois (Jan. 24), Eastern Michigan (Feb. 21) and Central Michigan (Mar. 21).

The Falcons will also host the Mid-American Conference Championships in 2010 in Anderson Arena. That meet is scheduled for March 27.
