Falcons Travel to Kalamazoo for Second Chance

BGSU concludes fall portion of schedule this weekend
The Bowling Green State University tennis team concludes the fall portion of the 2010-11 schedule with one final trip this weekend. Head coach Penny Dean and five members of the Falcon squad will head to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the ITA Second Chance.

The tournament, hosted by Western Michigan, will run from Friday through Sunday (Oct. 22-24) at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The ITA Second Chance will feature two 16-player singles draws and one 16-team doubles bracket. Play begins on Friday (Oct. 22) at 1:30 p.m., with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles play scheduled for that first day.
Action begins on Saturday (Oct. 23) at 9:00 a.m. with one round of doubles followed by singles, while Sunday's (Oct. 24) play commences at 8:00 a.m.
BGSU will be represented by five players in singles action. Senior Christine Chiricosta, sophomores Maddy Eccleston and Mary Hill and freshmen Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland all will compete in the singles portion of the weekend's activities.
Christine Chiricosta will team with Eccleston to compete in doubles action, while Nikki Chiricosta and Hill also will take part in the doubles bracket.
Each of the Chiricosta sisters has posted a 9-1 singles mark this fall to date, while Eccleston is 8-2, Hill 8-3 and Reuland 7-3. In doubles, the Christine Chiricosta/Eccleston duo has gone 7-2 since the start of the 2010-11 season, while Nikki Chiricosta and Hill have teamed up for a 5-2 record.
Overall, Christine Chiricosta has 17 wins this season to date, leading the team in that category. She is 17-3 in all 2010-11 matches. Nikki Chiricosta and Eccleston each are 16-4 overall this fall, while Hill and Reuland both sport 15-5 records.
The Falcons will be joined by players from Chicago State, UIC, Marquette, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
As mentioned, this weekend's tourney is the last fall action for the Brown and Orange. Following Sunday's play, BGSU will be idle from competition until a dual match at Louisville on Jan. 22, 2011.
