Nikki Chiricosta Wins Back Draw at ITA Second Chance

Falcons complete fall portion of 2010-11 schedule
Bowling Green State University tennis freshman Nikki Chiricosta won the back draw of her singles flight on Sunday (Oct. 24), as the Falcons completed play in the three-day ITA Second Chance. The event, hosted by Western Michigan, was held at the West Hills Athletic Club.

In addition to the Falcons and Broncos, the tournament participants included players from Chicago State, UIC, Marquette, Michigan State, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Nikki Chiricosta picked up a pair of singles wins on Sunday, losing a combined total of just seven games in her four sets. She topped a pair of NIU players, downing both Kelly Phillips and Haley Dekkinga en route to the consolation-round title.
Senior Christine Chiricosta and sophomore Mary Hill also picked up victories in Sunday singles action. Chiricosta defeated Chicago State's Peggy Moore,losing only three total games, while Hill lost just two games in a win over UWM's Kelly Fritz.
On the weekend, BGSU singles players went 9-6, while Falcon doubles teams were 3-3.
Sunday's action capped a successful fall schedule for the Brown and Orange. Falcon singles competitors combined to post a 61-24 singles record and a 28-13 doubles ledger during the fall.
With three total wins on the weekend, Christine Chiricosta moved closer to multiple school records. Chiricosta ends the fall portion of the schedule with 75 singles wins in her career. She is now tied for seventh place on that BGSU career list, and is just six wins away from matching the school record of 81 singles victories.
Chiricosta now has 73 doubles victories, tying her for fourth in school annals. The school record in that category is 84 wins. And, the Falcon senior is fifth in Falcon history with 145 combined career wins, leaving her just eight shy of that record (153).
BGSU's schedule resumes on the weekend of Jan. 22-23, 2011, when head coach Penny Dean's team will play a pair of matches in Louisville, Ky.
