Gymnastics Holds Intrasquad Meet
October 27, 2010 | Gymnastics
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team held a practice meet last weekend (Oct. 24) inside Eppler Gymnasium as the Falcons gear up for the 2011 campaign. Below are a few notes from the meet as well as some video highlights from the day's action.
“This was a great opportunity to evaluate the team based on our first couple of months of practice," said head coach Kerrie Beach. "Overall, I am encouraged by the performances I saw today. The athletes have really made a commitment to the changes we were expecting this fall and we are seeing results. While we still have work to do, this definitely opens the door to an outstanding competition season.”
On vault the Falcons were five-for-five on dismounts, earning a total team score of 48.450. BGSU was led by Dawn Christman (9.850) and Sunny Marchand (9.750).
“Dawn Christman, Sunny Marchand, Kasey Fillmore and Amber Brewer performed their vaults at a high level and proved that they will be forces to contend with on that event," said Beach.
On the uneven bars senior Amber Brewer was tops with a 9.800, which was followed by freshman Megan Harrington.
"On bars, Amber Brewer and Monica Eaton really shined," said Beach. "Freshman Megan Harrington is also showing a great deal of promise on this event."
Three Falcons scored at least 9.600 on the balance beam, led by Harrington (9.750). She was followed by Monica Eaton (9.700) and Brewer (9.600).
“We made big strides on beam, particularly handling the pressure of performing in a showcase situation," said Beach. Megan Harrington, Monica Eaton and Amber Brewer all did a nice job.”
Marchand scored a 9.800 on the floor exercise to lead all Falcons and was joined by Megan Valentini (9.750), another Falcon freshman.
“Both Megan Harrington and Megan Valentini stepped up on floor and completed excellent routines," said Beach. "Sunny Marchand will return with a new routine and some outstanding tumbling as well.”
