Buckeyes Play Scrooge at Hockey Holiday Celebration
December 11, 2010 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green Falcon hockey team tried to bring some holiday cheer to those inside the BGSU Ice Arena on Saturday night while hosting Ohio State University. The Buckeyes made ill of those plans and completed the weekend sweep of the Falcons with a 4-2 victory in the series finale.

Ohio State scored the first two goals of the game and took a 2-0 advantage into the third period for the Falcons to fight out of. Cameron Sinclair (Windsor, Ontario) scored his first goal of the season near the five-minute mark of the third period to half the lead. On a cross-ice pass through the slot from Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.), Sinclair was stationed on the near-side post and tipped in BGSU's first goal of the contest.
Three minutes and change later the Buckeyes retaliated with their third goal to retake a two-goal lead. Stemming from a turnover on the home boards, Danny Dries beat two Bowling Green defenders and took the puck far post on Falcon goaltender Andrew Hammond (Surrey, British Columbia).
Sergio Somma added to the damage with his second goal of the night, an empty-netter at 17:48 in the third period, giving the Buckeyes a 4-1 lead with minutes to go.
Andrew Krelove put his name in the scorer's column and brought the Falcons within two goals with less than twenty seconds to go. After James McIntosh (Holland Landing, Ontario) threw a shot that deflected off the pad of Ohio State goaltender Cal Heeter, Krelove winded up and put a shot on that made its way through traffic and into the back of the cage.
Hammond made 23 stops on the night in total while his couterpart, Heeter, made 11. The Falcons finished with 13 shots on goal to Ohio State's 27.
Bowling Green struggled on the power play, finishing 0-for-4 without getting a shot on goal in that time. The Buckeyes went 1-for-5 with Somma's first score being a power-play tally.
The Falcons (6-12-2, 2-10-2-0) will have the next two weekends off but will return to the ice right before the new year rolls around. They will travel to Storrs, Conn. to play in the UConn Invitational and open up with Princeton on Friday, Dec. 29, 2010 at 4:05 p.m. ET.
