Junior joins senior Christine Chiricosta in leadership role
Bowling Green State University tennis coach Penny Dean has announced that junior Jessica Easdale has been named a team co-captain for the 2010-11 season. Easdale joins senior Christine Chiricosta in that leadership role.
"Jessica is very deserving of this honor," said Dean. "In reality, she has been fulfilling a leadership role for us since the year began. Jessica is very responsible and understands the awesome position she will be undertaking as we strive to win a MAC championship."
Easdale, a native of Dublin, Ohio (Dublin Jerome H.S.), had an overall record of 10-8 in the fall of 2010. That record included a 5-2 doubles mark.
Last year, in her first season in the lineup, Easdale posted a 29-17 record, going 17-10 in singles and 12-7 in doubles play. She was named an ITA Scholar Athlete for the second time in as many years. Easdale played at the fourth through sixth singles flights in dual-match action, with a 6-3 record at flight number five and a 2-0 mark at flight six. She played at the fourth singles flight for six of the eight Mid-American Conference regular-season matches along with BGSU's conference tournament contest. In doubles, Easdale teamed with Katie Grubb for a 3-1 MAC record a year ago.
As a freshman in 2008-09, Easdale missed nearly all of the season due to injury. She saw action in just four matches, playing exhibition singles contests that did not count in the final match scoring.
In her career, Easdale has an overall mark of 39-29, having gone 22-20 in singles and 17-9 in doubles.
In the classroom, Easdale has a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average as a neuroscience major.
The Falcons begin the spring portion of the 2010-11 schedule on January 22, with a dual match at Louisville. BGSU's first home dual comes the next weekend, as the Falcons face Cleveland State on Jan. 28 at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The MAC portion of the schedule commences on March 25 at Buffalo.
