Flames too Hot for Falcons

UIC posts 6-1 win over BGSU; Falcons' first-ever loss at the PTC
Visiting UIC proved to be too much for the Bowling Green State University tennis team Sunday morning/afternoon (Feb. 21), posting a 6-1 win over the Falcons at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
With the win, the Flames are 7-2 on the year, while the Falcons fall to 6-3 with the loss.
UIC captured the doubles point, winning at the second and third flights, then won five of the six singles matches to post the road victory.
For the Falcons, the loss was the first ever at the PTC. BGSU is now 9-1 in dual matches at the facility.
All three of the doubles matches were closely-contested affairs. The Flames won by an 8-5 outcome at the middle flight and an 8-6 score at the third. BGSU's first-flight team of junior Christine Chiricosta and freshman Maddy Eccleston picked up an 8-5 win at the top flight.
In singles action, however, the Flames won straight-sets matches at each of the top-four flights, as well as the sixth level. BGSU's lone singles win came at the fifth flight, where sophomore Jessica Easdale downed Elena Antakova, a transfer from Oklahoma, in the minimum two sets.
The Falcons now prepare for a Friday (Feb. 26) match on the road against Cleveland State. BGSU will then be idle until the team plays three contests in Orlando, Fla., on the team's spring trip. The Falcons' next home match will be on March 19 vs. Duquesne.
