Matti Chappelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II), Ashley Miller (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay) and Kaitlyn Tobin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) also will join Richards, assistant coach Scott Gloden and the BGSU program this coming fall.
“We are very excited that these 10 young women have chosen to commit their futures to the BGSU soccer program,” said Richards. “We look forward to their arrival on campus in August.”
Burgner, a midfielder, was a four-year scholar-athlete at Wadsworth H.S., and played every game over her final three years while maintaining a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. She co-captained the Grizzlies in her senior year, leading the team in both assists and points. Burgner was a two-time selection to the All-Suburban League, All-Medina County and all-district first teams. She also captained her club team, Cleveland FC, helping that team to a State Cup semifinal appearance.
“The Falcon coaching staff believes Morgan's calmness on the soccer field, and her ability to make passes with great vision, will allow her to make an impact on the program,” said Richards. “We look to her to provide stability and finesse to the midfield over the next four years.”
Briem, a defender, was an All-Ohio Second-Team selection as a senior at Beavercreek H.S. Her outstanding senior year also saw her chosen to the all-conference, All-Miami Valley, All-Dayton South and all-district first teams, and she also was named to the All-Ohio Academic Team. Burgner played club ball for the Dayton Soccer Academy, and also has extensive Olympic Development Program experience. She represented ODP Region II in 2008, and was invited to the Ohio South ODP Regional Pool in 2008 and the Ohio South ODP Regional Camp in '09.
“Kylie possesses a tremendous presence in the defense, outstanding bravery, and the ability to organize her fellow defenders,” said Richards. “She will be a huge asset to the program and her new coaches are very excited to see how far she will progress as a collegiate athlete.”
Carmack, also a defender, was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain at Miamisburg H.S. After earning all-area honorable mention and all-league (GWOC South) second-team honors as both a sophomore and a junior, she was named the GWOC South Player of the Year as a senior after totaling 14 goals and 20 assists. Carmack also was named to the all-league and all-area first teams in her final year. She played club soccer with Cincinnati United Premier, where she was team captain and a state cup champion in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
“The Bowling Green coaching staff is extremely excited to add Alyssa's strong defensive style of play, technical skills, and tremendous work-rate to the program,” said Richards. “We are eager to watch her development as a college player at BGSU.”
Nelson, a defender/midfielder, was a two-time team MVP and earned team Offensive-Player-of-the-Year honors at Saint Thomas Aquinas H.S. In her senior year, she earned Eastern Kansas League honorable mention as her team posted a state runner-up finish. The Saints won state titles in both 2006 and '07. Nelson played club ball for KCFC Alliance Intensity, helping that team to five consecutive Kansas State Cup championships (2005-2009) and a pair of regional championships (2006 and 2008). The team qualified for nationals in '08.
“The Falcon coaches are thrilled to have Amanda join the program,” said Richards. “We feel her technical skills and knowledge of the game will enable her to excel in the college environment. Her overall attitude and outgoing personality will also add much to the chemistry of the team.”
Paszko, a midfielder, was an All-Ohio performer at Maumee H.S. As a senior, she earned first-team all-district, after garnering second-team all-state honors as a junior in 2008. An all-academic team selection in each of her four seasons, Paszko also garnered All-Northern Lakes League honors. She played club soccer with the Pacesetter program, helping that team to a State Cup finals appearance in 2006. Paszko, a member of the Ohio ODP from 2004-08, helped that team to the Region II finals in '08.
“We are delighted to secure Kailey's commitment to the program,” said Richards. “We believe she has tremendous potential for a bright future within the program and within the Mid-American Conference.”
Togba, a forward, was a two-time all-state selection for Hawken H.S., and earned all-conference and All-Cleveland honors three times each. She was her league's most valuable player as a freshman, and broke the school's single-season record with 34 goals as a junior. Togba played club soccer for the Cleveland Internationals, a perennial force in Ohio and regional youth soccer.
“Tracy is an extremely exciting and dynamic addition to the BGSU program,” said Richards. “She has shown a knack for finding the goal, and will add speed, tenacity, and excellent one versus one skill to the offensive line.”
Wideman, a midfielder/forward, was an all-state second-team selection as a junior for Troy H.S. in the spring of 2009 (Michigan H.S. girls soccer is played in the spring). A scholar-athlete in each of her first three years, she was named to the all-region, all-area and all-district teams as a junior. That 2009 season also saw her lead her team in goals and assists as Troy won a regional championship and reached the state semifinals. Wideman, a team captain for the upcoming 2010 season, is also a member of the National Honor Society. She has played her club soccer with the Bloomfield Force FC, where she leads the team in goals and assists.
“The Falcon coaching staff is delighted to have Maddy join the program, as she will add tremendous talent and competitive intensity to the center of midfield and offense,” said Richards. “She has great individual skill and is expected to have a very positive influence within the program.
“Although Matti Chappelle, Ashley Miller and Kaitlyn Tobin are not signing NLI's today, we welcome them to the program as well, and we look forward to their arrival on campus in the fall.”
The Falcons lose the services of six seniors off of the 2009 team.
