Falcon senior earns conference weekly honor
Bowling Green State University women's basketball senior Tamika Nurse has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (March 1). Nurse earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Nurse, a native of Hamilton, Ontario (St. Thomas More), averaged 22.0 points per game as the Falcons clinched the MAC's East Division title with a pair of wins last week. She shot .481 from the field in the two games -- wins over Buffalo and Kent State -- including an 8-of-14 (.571) performance from three-point land.
Nurse had 20 points in the Falcons' 81-64 win at Buffalo on Wednesday (Feb. 24), her most points in a MAC game to that point. She tied her career best with four three-point field goals in that win.
Then, Nurse set a new career best with 24 points in Saturday's (Feb. 27) 69-55 win over Kent State on 'Senior Day' at Anderson Arena. That win clinched the East Division crown for the Brown and Orange. North had four three-pointers in that game as well.
Nurse averaged 37.0 minutes per game on the week, and went 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
On the year, Nurse is averaging 10.7 points per game, ranking third on the team. She leads the Falcons with 3.2 assists per game, and is second on the team in minutes played and third in three-pointers made and three-point percentage.
Nurse earned this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division, while Melissa Goodall of Toledo was named the MAC P-O-W in the West.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 23-6 overall and 13-2 in MAC play, conclude the regular season with a Tuesday (March 2) game at Miami. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at MU's Millett Hall.
