March 10, 2010 | Men's Basketball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University sophomore forward Scott Thomas has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Team Honorable Mention for his efforts during the 2009-10 season.
Thomas ranked first or second on Bowling Green in almost every statistical category, scoring a team-best 13.2 points per game and ranking second at 6.3 rebounds per contest. In MAC games, he stepped up even bigger, averaging 15.4 points and 6.8 rebounds. He also led the team with 47 steals, and ranked second on the squad in assists (84) and blocked shots (20).
In league games only, Thomas ranked seventh in the conference in scoring, second in steals, 11th in rebounding, and fourth in minutes played at 35.75 per game. He started all 30 games for the Falcons and became the on-court leader offensively as the season progressed, capping off the year with 23 points, four assists and a blocked shot in the team's MAC Tournament First Round loss at Western Michigan. He was 10-of-15 shooting and made 3-of-4 three-pointers in that game.
As the year progressed, Thomas became a larger factor offensively. He scored in double-figures just eight times in the first 13 games of the year but closed the year in double-figures in 16 of the final 17 contests. He averaged 16.9 points over the final eight games and shot 48 percent from the field during that stretch.
Akron's Jimmy Conyers, Buffalo's Rodney Pierce, Miami's Kenny Hayes, Western Michigan's David Kool, and Kent State's Chris Singletary were named to the All-MAC First Team. The All-MAC Second Team consisted of Central Michigan's Jordan Bitzer and Robbie Harman, Eastern Michigan's Carlos Medlock and Brandon Bowdry, and Kent State's Justin Greene. Thomas joined nine other players on the honorable mention team – Akron's Chris and Brett McKnight, Ball State's Jarrod Jones, Buffalo's Calvin Betts, Eastern Michigan's Justin Dobbins, Miami's Julian Mavunga, Northern Illinois' Xavier Silas, and Ohio's D.J. Cooper and Armon Bassett.
Bowling Green ended the season with a record of 14-16 overall and went 6-10 in Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons were the No. 10 seed for the MAC Tournament and lost in the opening round to No. 7 seed Western Michigan 75-73.
