Falcons Hold Practice & Media Session; Prochaska Named MAC Scholar-Athlete of Week

The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team spent several hours at historic Freedom Hall Friday (March 19), meeting with the media before having a one-hour practice on the court. The Falcons are preparing for Saturday's (March 20) game vs. Michigan State, a first-round game in the 2010 NCAA Championships.

In other news, Prochaska was named the MAC's Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Friday afternoon. Prochaska earns that honor for the first time this season and the third time in her BGSU career.
A native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), Prochaska was named the MAC Tournament's MVP as BGSU won three games last week/weekend to capture the tourney title. She averaged 20.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in wins over Miami (quarterfinals), Akron (semifinals) and Toledo (championship game).
Prochaska shot .488 from the field in the three games, including a 9-of-19 (.474) effort from three-point range. She extended her school-record totals of three-pointers made to 89 this season and 238 in her career.
Prochaska had 15 points in the Miami game, and added 17 in the victory over Akron. Then, she had a season-high 29 points in the championship game vs. UT, along with seven rebounds. Prochaska went 12-of-14 (.857) from the free-throw line in the three games.
On the season, Prochaska is averaging 17.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, leading the Falcons in both categories. She is ranked 41st in the nation in scoring, and is seventh in the country in free-throw percentage (.895), ninth in three-point field-goal pct. (.449) and 29th in three-pointers per game (2.7).
Prochaska has a 3.27 cumulative grade-point average as a sport management major. She shared this week's MAC Female S-A-O-W honor with Eastern Michigan gymnast Erin Gregg.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week honors is presented to a male and a female student-athlete who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and who performed well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletics representatives.
