The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team will host the 2010 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championships this Saturday (Mar. 27) inside Anderson Arena. The seven team meet begins at 2 p.m. and will be carried locally (and on the internet) by BCSN.
The Falcons come into Saturday's action with a 5-7 overall and 4-2 MAC record. The four conference wins are the most by BGSU since the 2001-02 team went 6-0.
BGSU is coming off its strongest performance of the year, scoring 194.375 in a loss to Central Michigan last Sunday at home. The Falcons' team score was their highest in over five years as they posted a season-best, or close to, in all four events versus the Chippewas.
The Falcons are led by a pair of all-around performers in Breanne Guy and Kasey Fillmore. Both are coming off one of their strongest performances of the year with Guy matching her season-best in the all-around with a 38.925, followed by Fillmore's 38.675, her second-highest mark in all of 2010.
BGSU can boast that they have one of the strongest freshmen classes, a trio of Falcons that have contributed all season. Danielle Wishart competes in every event except bars and is the top Falcon performer on vault (9.875), floor (9.875) and beam (9.825). Sunny Marchand is coming off her best performance of the season on vault after posting a 9.825 versus CMU and has a season-best 9.800 on the floor. Monica Eaton, a bars specialist, posted a 9.850 versus Western Michigan and just last week score a 9.800 versus the Chippewas.
The entire Falcon lineup can be seen at the bottom of this release.
Kent State will come into Saturday's meet as the early favorites after finishing the regular season 6-0. CMU was close behind (5-1), followed by BGSU (4-2), Eastern Michigan (2-4), Northern Illinois (2-4), Western Michigan (1-5) and Ball State (1-5).
