Falcon junior earns final conference weekly honor of season
Bowling Green State University women's basketball junior Lauren Prochaska has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Sunday afternoon (March 7). Prochaska earns the honor for the fourth time this season and the ninth time in her Falcon career.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), scored a game-high 25 points as the Falcons downed Miami by a 63-58 final Tuesday night (March 2). That win, in BGSU's lone game of the week, clinched a sixth-straight outright MAC regular-season title for the Brown and Orange.
In addition to her 25 points, Prochaska had seven rebounds and tied for game honors with three steals. She was 4-of-9 from three-point range, and went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Prochaska, already the BGSU career leader in three-point field goals made, broke the single-season record in the Miami game. She now has hit 80 triples this season to date, breaking the old record of 78 (set by Angie Farmer in the 1999-2000 season). Prochaska also became just the fourth player in school history to surpass the 1,600-point mark for her career. She now has 1,619 career points as a Falcon.
On the season, Prochaska is averaging 17.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, leading the Brown and Orange in both categories.
Prochaska earned this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division, while Tavelyn James of Eastern Michigan was named the MAC P-O-W in the West.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 24-6 overall, won the MAC regular-season crown with a 14-2 league mark. BGSU will face Miami for the second-straight game, taking on the RedHawks on Wednesday (March 10) in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament. That game is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:00 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
