The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will return to action after a month layoffs with a trip to Nashport, Ohio for the 2010 Longaberger Spring Challenge Cup on Apr. 6.
The Format
The two-team meet will feature a unique format between BGSU at Ohio University. The 36-holes of action will be in a Ryder Cup format, where both schools will feature three teams in a match play scenario in the morning (nine holes alternate shot, nine holes best ball). In the afternoon there will be six singles matches, also in a match play format.
Overall, 12 points are up for grabs. The first team to 6.5 points wins the Spring Challenge Cup.
Morning Round
BGSU1 vs. OU1 (1 point on front nine, alternate shot/1 point on back nine, best ball)
BGSU2 vs. OU2 (1 point on front nine, alternate shot/1 point on back nine, best ball)
BGSU3 vs. OU3 (1 point on front nine, alternate shot/1 point on back nine, best ball)
Afternoon Round
Six singles matches, each match is worth one point.
A Look at the Falcons
The Orange and Brown are led by freshman Susy Grunden, who is averaging 79.06 strokes per round, recording three top-10 finishes and winning the individual crown at the Zippy Invitational with a 226 (77-73-76). Her 73 in the second round was the lowest score ever by a Falcon freshman.
Lauren Glew is second on the team with a scoring average of 82.94. Her top performance came at the UD Invitational, where she finished ninth. She also shot a season-low 76 at the Zippy Invitational.
Hannah Lambert, the lone senior on this year's squad, is third on the team with an 84.06 average. During the Fall she finished third at the YSU Invitational (81) and ended the Fall season with a 13th place finish at Dayton (80-81) and 15th place finish at the All-Ohio Invite (87-83).
Paula DiFrancesco is fourth on the team with an 85.00 scoring average through eight rounds this season. She shot a season-low 79 at the Duramed MAC Preview.
The fifth Falcon, Marisa Glew, is averaging 86.43 through 14 rounds this season. Her top performance was a sixth-place finish at the YSU Invitational, shooting an 83 in a lone 18 holes of action.
The sixth and final Falcon, Amy Ruthenberg has competed in just one tournament in her Falcon career. The freshman finished in a tie for 10th at the All-Ohio Invitational, carding a 169 (86-83).
