Junior becomes third Falcon in four years to earn the honor
Bowling Green State University junior Lauren Prochaska has earned honorable-mention accolades on the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team for 2009-10. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State Farm made the announcement at the Alamodome on Saturday afternoon (April 3) in conjunction with Final Four activities in San Antonio.
Prochaska is the third BGSU player in the last four years to earn honorable mention to the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team. Kate Achter earned the honor two seasons ago, while Ali Mann had been so recognized in 2006-07.
The WBCA announced the 10-member All-America Team from a group of 40 finalists (including Prochaska). The All-America Team consists of Tina Charles and Maya Moore from Connecticut, Jayne Appel and Nnemkadi Ogwumike of Stanford, Victoria Dunlap of Kentucky, Kelsey Griffin of Nebraska, Amber Harris of Xavier, Jantel Lavender of Ohio State, Danielle Robinson of Oklahoma and Monica Wright of Virginia.
The remaining 30 players, including Prochaska, earned honorable mention. Prochaska was the only Mid-American Conference player on the list.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), had yet another stellar season for the Falcons. She led the team in scoring and rebounding, with 17.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Prochaska was named the MAC's Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, and also was named the MAC Tournament's MVP.
Prochaska averaged 20.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg in the league tourney, as the Falcons defeated Miami, Akron and Toledo to win the championship. She scored a season-high 29 points in the championship-game win over UT. Prochaska also led all players with 19 points in the Falcons' NCAA Championships first-round game vs. Michigan State.
Just a junior, Prochaska already ranks third on the BGSU career scoring list. She scored a school record 609 points this season, and now has 1,699 points in 102 career games. Prochaska is averaging 16.7 points per game, the second-highest average in BGSU annals, in her storied Falcon career.
Prochaska made a school-record 92 three-point field goals this season, and also holds the BGSU career record, with a total of 241 threes in the Brown and Orange. She led the MAC in three-point field-goal percentage (.449) and total three-pointers made, and ranked second in the conference in scoring, and free-throw pct. (.899) and third in three-pointers made per game (2.71). Prochaska also ranked among the league leaders in rebounding, field-goal pct. and minutes played.
Prochaska is ranked among the national top-10 in a pair of statistical categories, free-throw pct. (fifth) and three-point FG pct. (ninth). She is ranked among the top players in the country in three-pointers per game (27th) and points per game (41st) as well.
Prochaska paced BG in scoring 19 times this year, and was named the MAC Player of the Week on four occasions.
The 2009-10 Falcons of head coach Curt Miller won the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles, advancing to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in six seasons.
