Weekend Action has Falcons Colliding with Toledo Rockets

The Bowling Green State University softball squad will continue to host Mid-American Conference West division opponents in a pair of weekend contests with I-75 rivals, the Toledo Rockets. BGSU has tabbed an even .500 record in Mid-American Conference competition so far this season, sweeping a doubleheader against Central Michigan on Friday (April 2) and falling to Eastern Michigan in two games on Saturday (April 3) and Sunday (April 4). With a pair of wins and losses in MAC play, the Falcons are currently 6-12 overall.
Game Notes--Toledo Rockets
The Rockets commenced MAC play last weekend (April 2-4), splitting a doubleheader win with EMU on Friday and lossing a pair of games to CMU on Saturday and Sunday. The Rockets are currently 7-24 overall and 1-3 MAC.
When the Falcons and Rockets last met in March 2009, BGSU defeated the UT softball squad, winning the first game 6-4 and the second 9-1 in just six innings. The Rockets finished the 2009 season with an 8-38 overall record and a 6-16 record in the MAC. The Rockets' softball program is led by head coach Tarrah Beyster who is in her second season at the helm of the team.
The Falcon softball program has a winning history against the Rockets, tallying a 53-33 record against the rival squad since the inception of softball at Toledo in 1981.
Falcons and Fighting Irish Postpone Doubleheader
The BGSU and Notre Dame doubleheader that was scheduled to take place yesterday (April 7), was postponed due to inclement weather storming across the midwest. The doubleheader has been tentatively reschedueld for Wednesday, April 28, 2010, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Falcons Finally Came Home!
After 49 days, three tournaments and 15 contests, the Falcons finally made their season debut at Meserve Softball Field sweeping a doubleheader against Central Michigan (April 2), winning 6-4 in the first game and 3-2 in the second. BGSU looked to continue its winning streak against the Eastern Michigan Eagles in back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday (April 3 and April 4), but came up short each game, losing 2-9 on Saturday and 2-5 on Sunday. In the second game against CMU on April 2, freshman Adrienne Dick smashed her first career homer as a Falcon. Of the 34 contests BGSU will compete in throughout the 2010 campaign, the team is scheduled to host only eight at home.

Of the six freshmen on the 2010 Falcon squad, three have started 18-18 games. Those three Falcons, Paige Berger, Hannah Fulk and Andrea Arney are leading the team in batting averages; Berger fronts the team with a .306 batting average, while Fulk is in second (.289) and Arney in third (.250). Amongst leading the team's batting average, Berger also leads BGSU in hits (15), homeruns (7) and slugging percentages (.796). Fulk has the most doubles on the team (4), is the most walked member of the team (13) and and boasts the highest on-base percentage (.467).
Hannah Fulk Named MAC Player of the Week
Hannah Fulk, a freshman from Jeromesville, Ohio, was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, as released by the conference office on Tues., Feb. 23, 2010. Fulk played in and started all four of the Falcon's games at shortstop at the Red and Black Classic in Athens, Ga. She contributed to the Falcons 2-2 tournament record,posting five hits for the team, including three doubles and one homerun—the first of her career as a Falcon-- that resulted in a .500 batting average, a .667 on-base percentage and 1.100 slugging percentage. Fulk's first career home run came in the top of the third inning against the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs that resulted in two RBI's. Fulk had one double in BGSU's win over Western Carolina and two doubles against Winthrop, one of which helped the Falcons take a 9-7 lead in the top of the sixth, before falling to the Eagles in the bottom of the inning. At the tournament Fulk was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases and was walked a total of five times.
