Philanthropic Gift From Paul Hooker Leading Improvement Fund
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A new era of investment in Bowling Green State University softball is underway, fueled by a significant philanthropic commitment from University Trustee and longtime Falcon supporter Paul J. Hooker.Â
Â
In a surprise announcement to the Falcon softball team earlier this fall, Hooker shared his plans to make a major investment in the program, providing the catalyst for significant enhancements to Meserve Field and another step forward in the continued growth of BGSU Athletics.Â
Â
The investment will bring meaningful upgrades to the home of Falcon softball, including expanded dugouts, dedicated player restrooms within the dugouts, and improved drainage surrounding the dugout areas. These enhancements will strengthen the everyday student-athlete experience while helping position the program for continued success.Â
Â
"We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation and for a person who believes in our softball program," said BGSU head softball coach Michelle Gardner. "His investment in our facility is about so much more than improving a space—it's about creating opportunities and building a legacy that will benefit our student-athletes and program for years to come. We are honored to have his support and cannot thank him enough for believing in what we are building."Â
Â
More than a facilities project, the investment represents a commitment to the future of Falcon softball and the student-athletes who proudly represent Bowling Green.Â
 Â
"Hooker's latest commitment builds upon a remarkable legacy of philanthropic support for Bowling Green State University," said Vice President of Athletics Strategy Derek van der Merwe. "His generosity has helped shape the campus experience through significant investments in the Student Green, as well as improvements to Steller Field, home of Falcon baseball. Now, his commitment to Falcon softball continues that legacy, creating meaningful opportunities for student-athletes and leaving a lasting impact on the University community."Â
