May 20, 2010 | Gymnastics
Megan Chronister, a senior member of the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team, was named an at-large member of ESPN the Magazine's Second Team Academic All-District (District IV), announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this afternoon (May 20).
Chronister, a native of York, Pa., maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in health science. Of the 21 members named to the first or second team, Chronister was one of just five student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA.
Chronister helped lead the Falcons to a 4-2 record inside the Mid-American Conference, their best finish since the 2001-02 squad went 6-0. Individually, the senior was a mainstay on the balance beam, posting a 9.650 or higher six different times in 2010. She posted a career-best 9.775 versus Illinois-Chicago and a 9.700 in a win versus Western Michigan.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team is the result of voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members within District IV. The district consists of schools in the states of Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. To qualify for nomination, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale). Additionally, she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen, redshirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
The at-large team hopefuls consisted of district student-athletes in the women's sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
