BGSU's exhibition schedule continues Sunday at Oakland
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team scored three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over visiting University of Windsor on Friday afternoon/evening (Aug. 20). The scrimmage, the Falcons' first action of the 2010 season, was held on the team's practice field.
A trio of fourth-year Falcons found the back of the net, with seniors Dusko Topolic and Garrett Bireline and redshirt junior Chris Jurtovski scoring goals for the Brown and Orange.
Topolic scored the opening goal, with Jurtovski giving the Falcons a two-goal margin. Each of the first two goals were good buildups leading to great finishes, according to head coach Eric Nichols.
Bireline capped the scoring off of a corner kick, putting the ball into the net after a scrum in front of the goal.
The team's three goalkeepers combined on the shutout, with redshirt junior Miguel Rosales playing the first half, and sophomore Dylan Schoettley and freshman Michael Wiest splitting time in the second half.
Nichols used a total of 24 players in the match, including 12 newcomers.
The Falcons have two more scrimmages remaining before opening the regular season. BGSU's next action will be a Sunday (Aug. 22) scrimmage against Oakland University, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the OU Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich.
