The Mountaineers outshot the Falcons by a 20-7 count in the 110 minutes, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half. ASU had five shots on goal while holding the Brown and Orange to just one.
But, redshirt junior goalkeeper Miguel Rosales and the Falcon defense kept the Mountaineers off the scoreboard. In his BGSU regular-season debut, Rosales made four saves to earn the clean sheet.
"I'm happy with our demeanor and our willingness to battle and stay focused for the entire match," said Falcon head coach Eric Nichols. "Getting the shutout is obviously a good thing.
"On the flip side, however, our execution in the attack was certainly lacking. We are going to have to figure out ways to be more effective when we have the ball."
The Falcons will remain in North Carolina to take on the host school, Davidson College, in Sunday afternoon action. Kickoff for that match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Davidson defeated Marist, 6-1, in Friday night's second contest.
