BGSU competes in three-day invite in East Lansing
The Bowling Green State University tennis team, fresh off a successful showing at the BGSU Invitational, heads to East Lansing, Mich., for this weekend's Spartan Invitational. The Falcons are one of 13 schools participating in the three-day tournament, which will begin Friday morning (Sept. 24).

The tournament will be hosted by Michigan State, and will be held at multiple venues in the East Lansing area. The list of participating schools includes four Mid-American Conference teams in addition to the Falcons – Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Other participants include California University of Pennsylvania, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Detroit, IPFW, Louisville and Marquette.
Friday's action begins at 9:00 a.m. at MSU's outdoor tennis courts. located in the heart of MSU's campus. More information on the courts can be found by clicking here. Some matches will be played at the tennis courts located near Fee Hall on the East end of campus (near Hagadorn Road).
On Saturday (Sept. 25), due to Michigan State's home football game, matches will be played at Okemos High School (10 minutes from the MSU campus) and the Fee courts. Action will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Sunday (Sept. 26) matches will begin at 10:00 a.m., both at the MSU outdoor tennis facility and at Fee courts.
The Falcons are coming off of a solid performance in the season's opening weekend. Head coach Penny Dean's team hosted the BGSU Invitational, and BG student-athletes combined to win five singles and two doubles titles. All seven Falcon players who participated in the tournament won at least one flight championship.
Senior Christine Chiricosta, sophomores Maddy Eccleston, Katie Grubb and Mary Hill and freshman Emily Reuland all won singles titles at the BGSU Invitational last weekend (Sept. 18-19). Hill teamed up with freshman Nikki Chiricosta to win a doubles crown, while Reuland paired up with junior Jessica Easdale to capture a doubles title as well.
The Spartan Invitational consists of five singles flights with 16 competitors in each, as well as three doubles flights. Each of the top-two doubles flights has 16 teams, while the third doubles flight has a total of 10 teams.
The Spartan Invitational is the second of three tournaments for the Falcons during the fall portion of the schedule. BGSU also will participate in Toledo's Rocket Invitational on Oct. 8-9. Additionally, selected team members will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the ITA Midwest Regional later in October.
