Nikki Chiricosta, Easdale Advance to Finals at Spartan Invitational

Chiricosta to play in Draw C championship; Easdale qualifies for doubles final
Bowling Green State University tennis freshman Nikki Chiricosta won her semifinal-round singles match Saturday (Sept. 25) at the Spartan Invitational, advancing to the championship match. The Spartan Invitational is being held at multiple venues on the MSU campus.
No team scores are being kept at the 13-school, three-day event, but champions will be crowned at each of five singles and three doubles flights.
Saturday's action was held at Okemos High School, as well as at the Fee Hall courts on the MSU campus.
Junior Jessica Easdale, competing with multiple players from Marquette University over the first two days, has advanced to the final of her doubles flight.
Nikki Chiricosta, in just her second weekend of action as a Falcon, defeated Marquette's Rachael Hush in three sets in the C draw on Saturday. Chiricosta and sophomore Maddy Eccleston each won two matches in that draw on Friday (Sept. 24), and according to the bracket, were scheduled to meet on Saturday. But, the semifinal matches were adjusted to prevent two student-athletes from the same school from playing each other, setting up the Chiricosta-Hush matchup.
Eccleston dropped a three-set match to Louisville's Amelia Harris on Saturday, and will play Hush in a consolation-round match. Chiricosta will meet Harris in the final.
In the A draw, senior Christine Chiricosta lost a three-set match to UL's Jullia Fellerhoff in the semifinal round. The loss was the BGSU standout's first after a 5-0 start to her season in singles.
Freshman Emily Reuland lost her semifinal-round match in the B draw. Reuland, after winning the first five singles matches of her Falcon career, lost to Michigan State's Michaela Silesova on Saturday. She will face another MSU player, Marina Bohrer, on Sunday.
In doubles, Easdale teamed up with Marquette's Chelsea Utting for a third-round win at the C Draw on Saturday. Easdale, who had picked up a Friday win with a different MU player, will compete in the championship match of the ten-team flight.
All three of BGSU's other doubles teams are 2-1 overall on the weekend. At Draw A, Christine Chiricosta and Eccleston won their first two contests, before falling to an Akron duo by an 8-4 count on Saturday.
In the B Draw, Nikki Chiricosta and sophomore Mary Hill also started the weekend with a 2-0 mark, before suffering a loss on Saturday. Reuland and sophomore Katie Grubb rebounded from a first-round loss in that same draw, posting a pair of Saturday victories to advance to the consolation final.
Overall, the Falcons went 3-4 in singles play on Saturday, and doubles teams consisting of at least one BGSU player posted a 5-2 mark. Through two days of action, BG is 13-8 in singles and 8-3 in doubles.
The Falcons will conclude action at the Spartan Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 26), with matches scheduled to be played at MSU's outdoor tennis courts as well as the Fee courts.
