BGSU Aims for Third Win of Season
After a month-long hiatus, the Bowling Green State University swimming team returns to the pool on Friday, Jan. 14 against Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan at Cooper Pool on the BGSU campus..
The Falcons enter the meet at 2-1 with a 1-1 record in the MAC. The Falcons defeated Akron to open the season, then defeated the Youngstown State Penguins on the road after dropping a decision at Ohio University.
In Youngstown, the team set a pool record while dominating the 400 medley relay. Several personal records have also been set during the 2010 portion of the season. Alexis kain, who has won all four breaststroke events during the team's Akron and Ohio meets, set a personal record in the 200 breaststroke against Akron then eclipsed it against Ohio.
The Eagles come to Bowling Green with an 0-5 record on the season and an 0-3 mark in the MAC. The two teams share one common opponent -- Ohio. The Bobcats defeated EMU on Oct. 29 by 30 points, one week before winning at home against Bowling Green.
Aside from the dual meets, the two teams have one other common meet, achieved when BGSU traveled to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the Eastern Michigan Invitational in December. Despite their 0-5 mark, EMU finished their home event in second place, behind only champion Michigan. The Falcons trailed the Eagles by 90 points at the end of the meet, placing fourth.
The Falcons and Eagles have a long history, dating back to the 1970s. The Falcons trail the all-time series, 18-14, but on Friday, they will try to beat EMU for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
Fourteen swimming events will take place at Friday's meet. These include the 100 and 200 fly, the 100 and 200 back, the 100 and 200 breaststroke, as well as five freestyle events (50, 100, 200, 500, 1000). Both teams will also compete in the 200 individual medley, the 200 medlye relay, and the 400 free relay.
The meet begins at Cooper Pool, within the BGSU Student Recreation Center, at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Results and a complete recap will be posted shortly after the conclusion of the meet.
