The Falcons will open their annual spring trip with the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday, March 5 with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. The next three opponents will mark a stretch of teams that Bowling Green has played a combined total of twice. At 4 p.m. on March 6, the Falcons will play Illinois State for the first time in program history before taking on Lehigh University (March 7, 11:00 a.m.) and then Mount Saint Mary's (March 9) after taking a day off in-between. The Brown and Orange defeated Lehigh in 2005, 8-7, during the team's spring trip to Bradenton, Florida but lost to Mount Saint Mary's, 3-1, at the same tournament in 2006.
As was scheduled in 2010, Bowling Green and Yale University will play a double header on Thursday, March 10 beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Bulldogs and Falcons had their meeting cut short last year by the coastal rains and played to a 5-5 tie in their first game before having it and their second game canceled due to the weather.
Bowling Green will finish the final two days of the tournament by playing North Dakota State University (March 11, 3:00 p.m.) and The Air Force Academy (March 12, 9:00 a.m.). North Dakota State and BGSU were supposed to play at last year's RussMatt Tournament but inclement weather cancelled their first meeting in school history and postponed a reunion between former BGSU assistant coach Todd Brown, now serving as the Bison's head coach.
The RussMatt Invitational is held in multiple facilities in the Winter Haven, Flor. area and is in its third year of existence. Bowling Green has participated each year and holds a combined record of 8-4-1 in two years participating in the tournament.
The Brown and Orange will begin the 2011 season on Feb. 18 when the Falcons travel to Bowling Green, Kent. to play a three-game series with the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. Their first home game will be held at Warren E. Steller Field when BGSU hosts the University of Northwest Ohio Racers on March 16.
