The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team returns home this Sunday (Jan. 30) to square-off with Ohio State and Western Michigan. The tri-meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
BGSU Falls at NIU
BGSU fell 188.675-186.600 in DeKalb, Ill., to fellow Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois last Sunday. Despite the loss, the Falcons did come away with three individual crowns, led by sophomore Sunny Marchand, who finished first on the vault (9.750) and floor (9.750). Monica Eaton was the top competitor on the uneven bars with a score of 9.775.
Marchand Marching Towards Top
Through two meets this season Sunny Marchand has made a major impact of the Falcon gymnastics program. She has competed twice on bars, coming away with one top finish, has a first and a third-place finish on the floor exercise and likewise, has finished first and third on vault.
Series Versus Broncos
As mentioned before, Sunday's meet will count in the MAC standings. BGSU leads the all-time series 25-8-1 and have won three of the last four contests versus WMU. Last season the Falcons won 192.975-191.600 in Kalamazoo.
Series Versus Buckeyes
Ohio State owns the all-time series 24-6. The last time these two squads met was in 2009 with OSU coming away with a 194.175-193.750 victory in Bowling Green.
Bronco Scout
Western Michigan is 2-3 on the young season, but is coming off a 193.800-193.225 win at Southeast Missouri State last Friday (Jan. 21.). It was a season-high score for the Broncos.
Buckeye Scout
Ohio State comes into Sunday's action with a 1-1-1 overall record. Last Saturday (Jan. 22) the Buckeyes tied fellow Big Ten opponent Illinois 195.300-195.300. OSU's 195.300 was a season-best.
The House That Roars
The Falcon gymnasts built a new nest in Anderson Arena in 2009 and that continues today. Since moving to Anderson Arena the Falcons are 5-3 inside the “House That Roars”. With volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball moving into the Stroh Center in 2011, Anderson Arena will solely be the home for BGSU gymnastics next season.
Falcons Announce 2011 Captains
BGSU head coach Kerrie Beach has announced that seniors Amber Brewer and Lexi Psichopaidas, along with red-shirt junior Kasey Fillmore and sophomore Danielle Wishart will serve as captains for the 2011 campaign.
Beach Leads BGSU
Head coach Kerrie Beach begins her fourth season at the helm of the BGSU gymnastics program. Last season Beach helped coach the team to a five-match win streak and a 4-2 conference record, both best in nearly a decade. She has an 19-30 overall record and is 9-10 in Mid-American Conference play.
Falcons Picked Sixth In 2011 Preseason Poll
The Mid-American Conference announced the 2001 gymnastics preseason poll on Jan. 4, with the Falcons picked to finish sixth among the seven team field. The poll was voted on the league's head coaches. Kent State was picked to win the league.
